LCP 2009 website officially open!

This was mentioned in another thread, but I thought I might just as well start a new, and a bit more "official", thread on this topic:

Little Computer People 2009

Date: 17-19 july
Location: Hemvärnsgården, Lund, Sweden.
Website: http://lcp.c64.org

Organizers:
Frantic // Taper // Iopop // Jackasser // Raveguru

The website is now officially open for people to sign up and YOU are invited. Sign up before someone else does it! ;)

Just wanted to let you all know that there is info on party features added:

- Mogwai - The data doctor, bringing your broken machines back to life!

- A new ExperiMENTAL Sidshow by Jucke

- Systematic use of Demo DJs in order to keep the big screen action going (isn't it boring with parties that only use the big screen for the compo?).

Expect a whole bunch of features to be added still!

I also added a section on cooperative traveling, which may be useful for those of you who are trying to cut the costs, or who just want to socialize a little. It is also possible to put up ads with buy/sell items, which you can then exchange personally at the party, without going through the hassle of shipping things post-wise.

Check it -> http://lcp.c64.org

Another tip.. Flying from Düsseldorf to SMALAND (VXO) airport with ryanair is only 42 EUR back and forth, departure 17 july and going back the 20th. The VXO airport is 200 km from Lund, but it is not unlikely that some of the swedes are coming from that direction and could pick you up in Växjö (the city where that airport lies). Ryanair also flies to Gothenburg, where yet other swedes may well go from. (Dunno about price/dates for that.)

If you take into account that is has only been possible to sign up for a week - yes it is a record!

Although, we had something like 120 visitors at LCP 2000, so it remains to be seen if the upper limit will be beaten too. :)

People,

Note that there is now a limit imposed on how many people that will be able to sign up at LCP 2009 due to limited size of the party place. If you're keen on going, you better sign up quickly.

Slightly more info is available in the most recent news entry on the LCP homepage.

http://lcp.c64.org

Also, note that info on the compo will be added to the site quite soon. In the meantime you can always check out the corresponding section on last years homepage, which is more or less identical with the info that holds for this year's compo too. See the section called "MAIN COMPO":

The limit is now reached... Stay tuned!

EDIT: If anyone who signed up for LCP knows for sure that they won't show up at LCP after all, then please let me know. It is nice if people who really want to come, may be able to do so, right?

Wow! It's really nice to see there are so many interested sceners. Too bad the location's too small to handle them all, but I have trust and hope that some kind of solution to that problem will turn up.

Perhaps you should open a voting page, where people can get voted out, so others can come in.

Must be a success, they build TV programs around that concept!

Hemvärnsgården + Lophtet would make a lame solution (which we may still like though). Or even a decently sized Scandinavian styled gymnastikshall as in the good old days.

If people are not let in, there is always the risk of civil disobedience. Like Kaze and SounDemon in a truck parked next to the party place, running "alternative LCP" or something similarly anarchic.

I hope this one can be solved. Tribute 2009!

Well... I don't think we will end up in a situation where zillions of sceners want to get in, but are not allowed to (reinforced by some lame nerdy "scene polices"). To be honest, it is quite clear that the rate of registrations dropped off quite strongly the last month, with the exception for the 5-6 people that suddenly signed up yesterday when the limit was imposed. This, hopefully, means that most people who actually want to come, already signed up. For the (again hopefully) quite few people that have not yet signed up, although they want to come, I think it may be possible to solve it. Hopefully mainly through other people explicitly stating that they won't be coming anyway, and I will also check if there is some possibility to cram a few more people in there. So.. all in all.. If you really want to come, then just sign up, and hopefully we can just... solve it. :)

Sasq, I'd do that closer to the actual date.

Also, it wouldn't surprise me of around 20 people that 'registered' in fact never show up.

@Sasq: yes.. we'll do that of course, but a little later. (Still three months left to the party.)

Anyway, we won't remove anyone who doesn't explicitly confirm that they're not coming (avoiding problems with emails that never reach their recipient, or whatever).

@Mace: the ratio of people who do not show up is usually closer to 10% on LCP (rather than 20% or so). Some years it was even close to 0%, so one cannot really count on it.

But again: Let's first see if it is in fact a "problem" in practice at all. Maybe people stop signing up, more or less, around now anyway.

If I am not entirely wrong there was parking space both in front of Hemvärnsgården and behind it. Cars can park elsewhere. Party tents with or without electricity (serious data can take place in doors) would make excellent folkbeerdrinking- and sleeping facilities.

What I am asking is if fully booked really not is an imaginary problem (.d64), rather than a real (5.25")? Instead ask if the visitors plan on bringing data-equipment (bigger than a laptop), far from everyone does.

The decision is, obviously, up to the organizers. They are the ones taking the risk, are experienced, and whose judgement is law. This post is just peer input.

Well... The thing is that the guy we're renting the place from is not really that picky in most respects, BUT when it comes to the number of people he is like picky like... a very very picky military anal person. If he passes by (which he did last year, in a 5.25" sense) and finds out that there is more people than the limit (which is due to fire-safety-regulation-blah-blah) he has told me he will cancel the event straight away. So... While it is of course a matter of degree whether the place is "full" physically or not, the safety-blah-blah-fire-regulations-rules-blah are not.

A party-tent may be convenient in any case, of course, and we'll think about that.

Anyway, it might still be a non-problem. If it turns out that the amount of people that shows up are in fact slightly below the limit (I suspect that this will be the case, but let's see). Then there is no problem at all, to begin with.

So.. just stay calm, and tuned. :)

I imagine 200 people showing up, complete wonderful chaos! The rental guy comes to the place, wants to stop the party, but Frantic refuses. He calls his military friends who come over, but we still refuse to stop. By sunday it will be the headline of the news and we will be escorted by the police.

Yeah, the list quite much tells who is really interested in this and not. I mean, d0dez who sign up like more than one hour after the registration service was activated are probably not initiated at all and can be seen as party waste anyways >;).

And also i'd like to see a pre-selection jury for the compos so that we don't have to sit all night and watch stuff like Judas and Afrika etc etc. We pay like €10 or so for this, and the SEK is going lower each minute as we speek, so we should also demand some quality rite? Ok, bad Monday over here, sorry i'm over'n'out. :P. ..and tell that military man to shove it up..

It is now official that LCP will be in Malmö (close to "Södervärn"), and not in Lund. We found another partyplace (YEAH!), which unfortunately isn't really a lot bigger than the one we first got, but at least rules are a bit less restrictive, so we'll be able to cram a few more people in anywayz... The date is of course the same as before, and so on.

For those who don't know: Malmö is located only about 20 kilometers from Lund, and it is closer to Copenhagen than Lund, in case you come from the south.

Information about all of this will hopefully be up on the LCP site sometimes this week... Yes...

Now everyone is curious about what will happen in the next amazing episode of the LCP/CSDb reality show: What will Jucke say about this? What will Rambones say? What will MacX say? RadiantX? Goto80? Mace? Magervalp? I DON'T EVEN KNOW MYSELF!!! Participate you too in the futuristic and interactive (non)sense-making!! NOW!!

Fantastic!

Wrath Designs HQ, with guys like HZ, Triad and FLT just around the corner.

Some nice pubs and restaurants is located nearby, part from the Möllevången everything is close.
Participants might want to go and have a night out and dance electronic to the genres of house, techno, dub, synth.
There is clubs of different sorts also in the area, and you could even get your dose of art & noise probably if the dates coincide with activities in town.

Excellent choice!

I'm seriously considering to visit the party, but I could only arrive one day earlier (Thursday morning). Is anyone living near Copenhagen or Malmö who could offer me a small, windless place where I could spend a night before LCP? I'm not choosy, anything will do what has four walls, a roof and a door :)
Or if you could advise a cheap room to rent, that would be great as well!

If you cant stay in Malmö with a groupmate or something, you are welcome here at me in Odense. (center of denmark) Train from here to Malmö is ~2.5 hours i guess..

Macx is saying:

Södervärn will bring a nice ghetto-feel to the event. With Möllevången around the corner (where MAZZA 1 was held in my apartment back then), this event will be true cyberpunk hardcore. No less.

If Stash and Ed (and the other local h4ck3rz) will not show up this time around, serious kidnapping and public spanking will take place (for real).

Jailbird: There are loads of people in Malmö you can crash at. As there is a phenomenon called scene solidarity you will not have a problem with getting them to help you out with a crash pad. Ask Stash, he is a nice fellow (honestly, he actually is). If everything else fails, The Christian Hardrocker of SWA will for sure put you up with a sofa.

The LCP/CSDb-reality show Frantic mentions is actually a LCP/CSDb/Antidote last sub-reality show. Do not miss out on the elite C/G part.

Now I will need to change that battery.
Over and out.

Is it possible to just "drop by" the party for an hour or two? I might be passing thru Malmö during the party, and it'd be fun to have a look.

I have a hard time seeing how anyone in any way could stop you. The few body builders attending LCP are not of the kind opposing people "dropping by", at least not as a general rule. Frantic might ask you for the full fee though, but with the Norwegian oil funds presumably backing you up the Swedish zlotýs is never an issue I bet.

Ofcourse good old Oyvind should show up at LCP, if just to hang around for a while. After all, I havent met you since TP95 I think... :)

However, we will release HCL on you if you don't pay the fee, and that is worse than releasing the hounds! :)

Indeed, TP95, that was just before we joined Triad wasn't it?

Anyhow, as the SEK is worth less than the rubble along the roadside these days, I guess I can manage to pay the entrance fee, should I manage to be in Malmö :)

Alright people... instead of guessing how many people that will bring a computer to LCP, I decided to send a mail to the participants asking if they will do so (possible answers are "yes", "no" or "maybe). If you're on the list, but did not get this mail, due to spam filters or something, then please send me a PM here on CSDb or so, telling me your answer to this question.

This helps us plan how many tables that will be needed, and it also gives us a better grip on how many visitors we will be able to let in, since the main factor constraining that is precisely how many tables that will be needed. It looks like we will be able to soften the restrictions on the number of possible participants quite a lot, but we need your answers!

Also... Just to be clear: The point with asking people if they will bring a machine or not is not in any way to discourage you from bringing the machines that you do in fact want to bring. In particular, the point is not to make people prioritize between c64 or laptop, ending up only bringing a laptop or so. We certainly want to see as many C64's there as possible!

LCP is now open to further registrations! Horray!

We were informed that one of the rooms that we will now be able to make use of were larger than we were previously told, and that solves a lot.

The max number of visitors are now more like 170, so there is space for a whole bunch of more people!

Best,

hey guys, anyone knows a cheap hotel/hostel in Malmo (or has a sofa to spare :-) for Sunday? It seems most flights leave Malmo around 12:00-14:00 on Sunday and I don't want to be in a hurry and/or miss the end of the party so I'll probably take a flight back on Monday and thus in need of some accomodation.

About car parking.
There are only 10 free places near the partyplace, and I doubt those will be available when we arrive. Are there any other free car parks nearby or a parking house ? Please update the LCP homepage with information on this matter.

Good question. I don't live in Malmö myself, so I must say that I am pretty clueless... Anybody who lives in Malmö knows anything about this?

I have to say, though, that "10 places" is a bit of a guess from the top of my memory (I've only been to the party place once.). There may be more space than that. Anyway, I am sending a mail to the guy that I am renting the place from now about this.

-----------

Exactly one month left to the party now! ...and yesterday we reached 150 ppl signed up for LCP!

Compo rules appear somewhat vague. Do you have to be there, to enter a compo? Can graphic entries contain music, tags?

"E-mail entries are not allowed. We strongly believe in having the competitors present in the audience during the compo. The rule of thumb is that at least one of the creators of a certain production will have to be present at the compo, in case there are several people involved, like for a demo or so."

Historically at LCP-parties Frasse has always kept the screen on while playing the music-entries and the sound on while showing the gfx-entries.

so if some1 coded a pic displayer may hand in personally his (not present) groupmates' gfx? :)

The philosophy at LCP is to supply some rules, but to let the voters (the visitors) have the final word as part of the voting procedure; what is considered OK or not. Let's say someone hands in a tune with some graphics shown on the screen as a music entry - if people find that lame and not acceptable, they should vote low, etc....

The good old "Social control" strikes again... ...and basically, we make use of common scene-sense. However, of course we do not accept anything at all. If you're in doubt regarding something about the compo rules, just send me a message and we'll sort it out.

@Oswald: The creator of a picture is considered to be the graphician, and the creator of a tune is considered to be the musician, not those who coded the displayers/players. I elaborated on this on the website now.

I don't know if there still is issues with the space for people, but if there is, there will be a spot open, since I most likely will not be attending. :(

That also means I won't get to torment you all with my demo DJ set where I would have played old press-space demos, not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing! :)

Ok boys and girls.

By bus from "Malmö Central station" you take bus 7 direction: Svågertorp via Gustav Adolfs torg and walk off at Södervärn. There you will have to walk quite for a while until you reach Bragegatan (follow the map on the webpage)

Another option is to take bus 8 direction: Kastanjegården via Gustav Adolfs torg and walk off at Dalslandsgatan. The bus takes almost the same route as bus 7 up to Södervärn, but continues on a different route to Dalaplan and then Dalslandsgatan. Dalslandsgatan is probably closer, but if you don't know town and are afraid somebody would steal your lousy 20 year old data burgers - choose wisely! :D

For those coming in from Copenhagen and stop at "Malmö syd Svågertorp", Just take bus 7 direction Bernstorp via Södervärn and walk off at Södervärn.

Yo!

Two small details:

- Please keep music entries for the compo within reasonable length. This is not a strict rule, but we would appreciate if they are around 3 minutes or shorter.

- Bring a pencil, to be able to take notes of votes during the compo. (Each entry should be given a score between 1=sucks to 9=excellent). I will supply papers to write on.

There’s something about those photographs that give off an air of first person shooter danger-ness.

Just around the corner the opposition lay in wait, to take down intruders. Above the clouds, survience craft circle over head, using infrared vision.

Considering the proximity to Rosengård I would say that you are probably not too far off, at least not when it comes to danger-leevl!
