Was he aware of the C64 demo scene ?
We included a picture of Jack Tramiel during Zeros & Ones in The Note pt.
To my knowledge it is the first time an image of him hs appeaered during a C64 demo.

RIP Jack Tramiel, you changed the life of millions for the better.
Wile Coyote: He visited his home country, poland, some years ago, and was also welcomed by some (iirc) polish atari sceners.

Although he wasn't really responsible for the technical brilliance of the C64 computer (Chuck Peddle and Bob Yannes are the REAL heroes behind that), he made sure that these computers were affordable at the time. Otherwise my dad wouldn't have been able to afford one and I would have never been involved in the C64 scene in that case. This computer changed my life completely!
R.I.P Jack - a great man who made sure that Commodore computers were THE computers to chose from! |

Thanks. I'd forgotten much of Soiled Legacy.
I really like the constant but ever changing audio.
I'd never spotted Jack in there in the past. |

Sadly another life passed away, although bear in mind the creators of the SID/VIC as well (Bob yannes etc) Not passed away, but responsible for the innards of the c64. ofcourse the C64 would not be here without Jack |

Whatever people might say about Jack, he did make computing affordable for most for the first time. I learned so much from my c64, I can honestly say my life would have been really different now if I never had one..
@Exile : it seems they somehow got hold of Jeroen Tel, so he'll be on tv tonight.. |

Sad, but what a fantastic story his life was. Coming all the way from a concentration camp, to starting up a typewriter company that evolved into creating some of the most popular homecomputers which spread joy to millions of kids. |

RIP Jack. C64 and C128 were my favorites even when the 16-bits and PC's were popular. |

JT: "Ja, klopt"
Interviewer: "Van de wereld!"
JT: "Van de wereld, ja".

Of course you are. I talked to Jeroen yesterday and he told me that he also mentioned alot other composers that were among the best - but that was left out in the end. He also told me that he actually spoke alot about Jack Tramiel whom he met back in 1987 but that was also left out - quite strange as the program was about his death... So things were cut out... |

Ok! That explains it! (I was also a bit surprised!) Too bad they left out a lot. Would have loved to see it. |

Considering the broadcasting association that had the interview with Jeroen, it's not that strange that they totally forgot about Jack Tramiel.
More information on this broadcast association is found on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PowNed
The website http://www.geenstijl.nl/ started this network originally. Mor informatie on this website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeenStijl.nl
Not my cup of tea, to be honest. |

Actually they did pay respect to Jack Tramiel but at the same time gave Jeroen the recognition he deserves.
Maybe you should check it out ;)
But more on-topic: RIP Jack Tramiel, thanks for the inspiration. "I don't believe in compromises, i believe in winning". |

I have to quote this! I mentioned other C64 composers too but they bluntly edited it out of the TV item! I am not responsible for that! :) |

We spend time on this forum / Database because of Jack Tramiel. When he would've been gassed in the chambers of Auschwitz we *all* would very likely not even ever meet in life. I deeply respect him for what he did after his war-period. He blazed war against the industry and succeeded by producing the best sold home computer ever, with in my opinion the best sound-chip ever. Anyway... He should be added the CSDb database in some way or form? Who agrees?
Cheers,
Jeroen |

Quoting JT_MoNAnyway... He should be added the CSDb database in some way or form? Who agrees?
Intersting enough, he is already here: Tramiel Jack ...
Although I don't think he belongs here as a scener - I think by the so far 2 memorial releases Jack Tramiel: Rest in Peace! and RIP Jack Tramiel , he is honoured in a very good way. When entering "Tramiel" in the search, one gets to see how the scene remembers him - I think that is the best we could do.
May he rest in peace. |

To me the C64 scene is like a cult/religion (probably the most interesting and peaceful as well ;))... so I would see Jack Tramiel as a prophet rather than a scener. |

RIP Mr. Tramiel.
Visionary, business shark, man of good and bad decisions that created wonderful computers at the end. The world would be some great machines less without him. Anyway, I'm not sure that he would fit as a normal "scener" (about C64, he had vastly different motivations from all sceners I think) but I do agree that he should be mentioned in scene archives and deserves a special place. |

When it arrives I will post a screen shot here.
Will it have black-outline or no black-outliine ? |

The face of himself has less blackoutline, while the Commodore logo does have black outlines. A brown/pink face, with black/grey suit, on a grey background with a grey/white Commodore logo, and some stripes in the background, along with the text (birthday etc.)..
