Unknown Realm - new C64 RPG on Kickstarter!

I know it is a bit lemony, but I have been excited ever since Mermaid posted the news on fb (no, she is NOT doing the gfx; or is she? ;-), so I couldn't resist sharing it here as well:

This sure looks AWESOME!

@Mermaid
Wow! That's great news. \o/
Which mode are you going to choose? Hires? Mcolor?

Was secretly hoping for AFLI (rendering the socalled "PC-Retro-look" completely ugly;)).

At least the discussion about "Is this stuff scene related" is now put to an end with Mermaid doing GFX for this game (and maybe Huelsback doing a soundtrack).

So yesterday I decided to back it (my first Kickstarter!). Think the GFX alone is worth it ;)

Any updates on the status of this game?

Not really. SDG posted an update for xmas, but without any details re: game progress or current status. But they are working on it.

Sadly they show all the warning signs of a project that is failing and not knowing how to communicate about it. They’re a year late, and they haven’t posted a single substantial detail about the game’s development. They found the time to produce a Christmas demo, but somehow can’t find the time to post a screenshot. Their twitter feed is just motivational poster junk.

I’m not hopeful at this point.

If they give me half of the collected fund (which is about 3x my yearly salary), I swear I'll learn how to code and compose and finish it myself.

it's exactly what most those kickstarters do: they swear to do something, few actually do.

If only it was a C64 game, but it's also a PC game, and then there's the production of the physical items + other backer rewards, and all this gets in the way of getting the actual game done, particularly with a small team.
