Sharing 1541-II between 8 C64s
This ad https://twitter.com/davidmt/status/1272524141086769157?s=20 claims that apparently 8 breadbins can share one 1541-II (a "local network")...
But how, daisychaining via serial interface?
One guy suggested this device https://www.commodore-info.com/mix/item/handic_vic-switch/en/de..
Wondering if anyone came across this before? |

VIC Switch was a common device in schools to do just that, indeed. |

Yes. My first introduction to the C64 was using a setup such as this at school (1986/87) - All sharing 1x 1541 drive. |

I have a VIC-Switch sitting here in my office but I have never tested it. Maybe I will get to that eventually. I have heard that they don't allow the burst mode protocols or something that makes it not useful for devices such as CMD HDs, etc. Anyone know more about this? |

Quick web search brought up http://cbm-hackers.2304266.n4.nabble.com/Handic-VIC-Switch-td46.. where the causes for burst problems are discussed. |

I would do it like this:
1) connect first c64 to 1541.
2) execute SYS 61061
3) connect second c64 to 1541
4) optionally execute SYS61061 also on the second one.
Both C64 will be able to use the same drive.

I have a VIC Switch which I have modified with serial reset and a lock switch (fix it to the current c64 using it) to make demos work :)
Bought it from the school when they replaced C64s in the computer lab with PCs.
Used it until i started cross developing on PC instead of 2 C64s... |
