Problem with my XE15141 cable

I own Windows XP Professional Edition, an XE1541 cable and star commander.

Here is my problem copy/paste it from a request with someone else but he couldn't help me:

"Hello,

My name is Fahed Al Daye I purchased the XE1541 cable from you. I have a problem I would like your help, here is my situation:

"I have XE1541 cable and star
commander, the problem I am facing is I am unable to transfer files
between PC to the 1541, it detects it, alright but then as soon as I
activate the program or start the program it freezes while the disk drive goes endless reading but nothing happens I have to hit ESC twice
before it stops but then I get the flashing led indicating error in the disk drive. When I go and transfer file to format disk and transfer it says formatting but it goes endless formatting nothing
happens and when I remove the disk nothing else happens except endless disk rotation as if formatting but no format goes and again it does
the flashing led error. Any suggestion with the problem?"

Before that problem I had it worse, before it could not even detect drive at all. Please help me."

Please help me guys, I really need to get this working.

From http://sta.c64.org/xcables.html

"The XA1541 active cable uses transistors and resistors rather than diodes. This makes it the ultimate transfer cable because it works even on those few motherboards that the XE1541 extended cable and the XM1541 multitask cable have problems with. This cable also works under GNU/Linux and is compatible with all Commodore machines and drives that have the usual serial bus port."

The number of those few motherboards where the XE cables do not work has increased. Turn your cable into an XA1541 cable to make it work.

Star Commander and WinXP doesn't work very good. It will always be unstable, if you ever get it to work. Better try your luck with http://www.trikaliotis.net/cbm4win.shtml. It's a native Win32 app, but requires you to modify your cable into an XM1541 cable. Either you exchange two cables on your XE cable or get an XE/M adaptor here: http://sta.c64.org/xem1541a.html

Good luck!

Or I could buy me an XM1541 cable instead. Thanks for the help guys.
