D2TV mod commercial in disguise on c64.sk

Do you think this is fair:

"C64 D2TV PAL version hacked 01:03

The C64 D2TV PAL Version was hacked at Hobby & Elektronik 2005 Expo. The news is in german www.go64.de. But you can check the photo here. For those who are interested in C64 DTV (NTSC) hacking on their own, here is the info dtvhacking.info Alternative: for dummies Updated by CreaMD "

when you click on the "news" (go64.de) all what you find is a picture and sum text telling you how much it costs to order a modded D2TV.

What everyone (atleast me) would except when clicking there is about 15 pictures of the hack, and text on how to do it. But no, there's zero info about how they hacked it at the Hobby & Elektronik 2005 Expo. They just want your money.

Thats like when browsing for porn, and instead a gallery of a naked chick, you get 6 new window with porn advs. ;)

I agree with Groepaz, there are many useless news on C64.sk for me too, many aren't useful for sceners, many aren't useful for retrogamers, many aren't useful for partygoers etc. And I agree, the ads (however I guess unpaid ones, so they shouldn't be marked with (x) and attacked really heavily) and the sticky news are even more annoying.

A good solution would be (needs some server coding and database conversion) to categorize the news, label them in their headline (party news, game news, site update news, game release news etc.) and let us filter them somehow. A good example for this can be seen at (http://www.hcgamer.hu/), a similiar newsportal I'm working for. There you can see two checkboxes above the news, one for console news and one for PC news - it was added because most of our readers are PC fanatics and console haters, so they can filter out the unwanted console news. Of course this selection is stored in a cookie, so similiar way everyone could finetune C64.sk to his/her needs.

Just my 2 cents, which could satisfy all parties.

At this point I think it's too much to change c64.sk into some "this only" or "that only" category. As someone already posted, it's like a daily dose of C64 info/news.

Quote: heh, I didnt wanted to go as deep as Groepaz did. Why I started all the whining, is that the post in question was absolutely misleading. if it would contain the information that this is something for money, I would have simply skipped it. It was unfair not doing that. Our world is so much full of commercials, I cant go from point X to point Y in Budapest without having 3 ppl pushing into my face their flyers. Atleast I can avoid that, but the post in c64.sk didnt give me the chance.

Good! I'll add a strict rule that Title of the news and the text should clearly show what is going on. If not, "we reserve the right to remove the news"

Groepaz: your analysis is right. The more strict I'll be the less people will love me... eee.. I wanted to say. The less people will accept c64.sk as *their* news server. So there must be some general compromise, or better organisation ;-). Maybe colors.... or some cathegories.

T.M.R., MacGyver and Me spent debates about this but came to same conclusion. We have to evaluate it from case to case basis.

Yes this is good idea. I was thinking about something like this. This will also solve long lasting problem with "related" news .. they will be simply filtered on default ;-)

" it's like a daily dose of C64 info/news." and I would like if it stayed like that. Plus I would like that sceners would post more about their work.

Cathegorisation would probably have 2 parts:

1: cathegory of content (expandable)... various types of release (will be probably compatible with CSDB).. ,

I think that for new releases added to CSDB there could be automatic news feed mead in cooperation with Perff. I'm already receiving e-mails after midnight, but adding it automatically would be the best thing. That way scener wouldn't have to add the release twice. Aalthough I like some originality in news text, so maybe it should be possible to add some additional news text to automatic news if anyone would like to.. mhm.. ;-)

2: type of news: retro, commercial, hardware, software, scene, I will have to think about this more.

What is important for me is that scene news can't be filtered out. The rest will be on visitors will.

So if I understood this correct (hello CreamD ;) ), then people can choose between C64 scene and other retro/misc C64 news, right? Because I like reading about retro & misc C64 news too (depending on what it is exactly about!).

You will choose what (except of scene news) you don't want to see. Scene news won't be filterable.

Why not create a "c64bullshit.com".
Many people put interest into an ancient machine, but it is
clearly not appreciated by some.
Lets put them where they belong!!

Seriously now..
Why these bad-vibes about C64 related things?
You should rejoice that others also have an interest in
the Commodore!
I consider C64.sk as my newspaper related to the C64.
Many articles I skip, but there are some very good ones
every now and again.
And this stab at CSDb I really don´t understand?!
What is your problem??

Groepaz Problem is that he's anti-everything that's not reverse engineering and plain vanilla c64! ;-)
He's a nice chap and we all love him, but just don't listen to him when he starts his "nobody needs that" rants, he just loves promoting his own needs to the needs of the public! ;-)

Seriously: Who would ever object to News about the DTV or Slay radio on a c64 news site? There's really not that much happening in the c64 realm worldwide to have such strict rules!

thats nonsense. what i'm against is things that arent *scene* (in this case _c64_ scene) but are presented in a supposed to be scene context. i'm a strong disbeliver of that "we can satisfy all" nonsense everyone seems to go mad about these days.

the original point is that there is a big difference between a "hey look you can buy your hacked dtv here" advertisement and whatever scene related news. no more no less. i would have loved to read a detailed article about the whole thing myself, but all that was posted was an advertisement.

and besides that, c64 scene is still one of the strongest moving scenes around, i dont think we need all that retro crap just to have more news.
