How long do you think...
the Commodore 64 has left in its life span?
It has survived for nearly 23 years. Thousands of games were created and sold for the C64 market.
Today that market is almost dead. The groups that released in the 1988-1990 era are mostly dead and any webpages you find are 404. I can't count the number of releases I find on here that are from groups now extinct. It always makes me a little sad, and I wonder where they are today.
So... how much of a lifespan do you think the C64 has? Can we continue to sustain it on cracking old software and training old games? Is there a demo scene left to continue to develop? Are there new routines left to design?
Do you think more software developers will release? Is it justifiable to continue?
I'm curious what YOU think as to how much longer we can go on?? This post isn't meant as being sarcastic, I'm genuinely interested in what you think.

@Wanderer: If you spend half of the time wondering about this and instead focused on coding new and cool demos there will be no problem, trust me.
And Oswald, same goes for you, CODE, CODE and CODE!
I really do expect a Resource release soon.

If you asking this question, you have absolutely no clue why groups like Nostalgia & Remember are doing this.
As for the C64 timespan; look at the activity on forums like CSDB and on the IRC #c-64 channel.
People are still discussing new things that can or could be done with the C64.
I still don't see the end in that.
Also old sceners re-discover and new young people with fresh ideas and input are discovering the C64.
Why? Just because the whole scene is still so active.
IMO, this thread was started 64 years too early :)

I remember demos from 1986 which said the C64 is dying and everybody should leave for Atari ST or Amiga :D |

in 1996 the game and cracking scene almost died and the swappingscene too. in 2000 it was al living up. and yes, people still asking when the scene will disappear. the scene will not fade, not untill the last commodore parties have been held. the scene itself is a part of mystic and nostalgic feelings.just like christmass :-)

It still blows my mind to see Vic-20 demos :)

There are still things to do that weren't done yet, especially the SID hasn't even been exploited as the VIC has.
Smart coders will find new ways.
I'm sure.
