True Drive Emulation enabled?
Virtual Device Traps on?
Try switching between 1541 and 1541-II emulation, some loaders only work on one drive. |

Actually it's not random. It's turned off when:
-you load a file that isn't a disk image (eg. .prg, .t64, .tap)
-the Virtual Device Traps are turned on and you choose to autostart file from a disk image - TDE is turned off for loading time. If you interrupt the loading process (eg. by autostarting another file), TDE remains turned off. |

Sorry, I was not completely correct in my statement. When you load a .t64 or .tap file, TDE ain't turned off. It seems it's only true for .prg files, and it's related to the fact that they are loaded via sort of a fake environment, and therefore a real drive, which TDE tries to emulate, needs to be detached. |

@oswald: the prg-files load faster.
I'm also quite irritated at this "feature" (TDE getting turned off when autostarting a prg-file.) I can't really see that it would have to be that way? Fake environment or not, and it should defenitely get turned on again if doing a reset before prg file is fully loaded for example.
Anyway, I guess I shouldn't complain.

You're better off loading PRG files through the builtin monitor than from the command line, anyway. Just do »l "program.prg" 0« and it'll load straight from the current directory, without messing with your drive settings. |

Drag'n'drop is always the most convenient way to load stuff in Vice. |
