.tap transfer to datassette

Why do all the .tap files I download and try to transfer to tape not work? I do a "Final Tap" on them and use ptap to transfer. New at this but no success so far. HELP!

It depends on where you get the taps from. Theres plenty of tapes done without being cleaned perfect and some done using a soundcard to record.

If you afterwards use ptap on a perfect cleaned tape then it works fine.

Thanks for the reply mason. It's .taps downloaded from the net. I have checked them with final tap and the ones that "pass" I have tried to transfer to the datassttee. None work. The site,"tapes.c64" say all their .taps are good. I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong. If their site bis bogus, is there anywhere else a person can get .tap files of hard to get games? .tap files that work? The thing is that the .tap files work in "VICE". I'm using brand newTDK IEC/TYPE1 cassettes and I've tried it on 2 1530 C2N datassettes. Where do I go from here?

Mason, forgot to say, I'm using a X1531 adaptor connected to the parrallel port of my PC and running ptap on DOS 6.22. No joy.

Another thought, could it be because the 25 pin D connectors I'm using have ceramic filters in them? The games load up to a point. They will load and say "FOUND ****" and the carry on a bit, and then stop.

I used to transfer data beetwen tape and PC using soundcard and my pioneer xr-a370 , only inverting wavefrom is needed on some soundcards). there's even no need to use screwdriver ;-)

this worked fine for me, when I didn't had disk drive in 2001 or so..

Have another try with an old laptop or similar. Also some OS' deny the proper work with parallelports.
