Need help on using XM1541 cable
Hi.
I'm having huge problems trying to get loads of wares from real 1541 disks to my PC via a XM1541 parallel cable (so that i can put them on this site!)
Basically a while back I ordered the cable plus the DOS software to make the transfer work as I also have a real C64 plus 5 boxes of wares where some have not been put CSDb yet (they were from this unknown UK group called RUBIDIUM, which I can also add info about that group on CSDb aswell.)
The main problem is my PC has Windows XP installed >P Windows XP is absolutely useless for DOS programs, and I searched everywhere to try and find a WinXP plugin for the transfer software, but no luck :'(
Any suggestions on getting this problem to work will be a great help! My opinion on the problem is that its the dam OS, I'll probably need Win98/95 or even just MS-DOS for this to work. |

You can use software like DirectIO to allows DOS programs to do hardware accesses to the LPT/COM ports.

I thought so!!!...
Dam Microsoft are going too "INTERACTIVE" :( Theyre trying to drag us young people away from the HARD STUFF of computers. Well, they aint gonna stop me! XD XD
Anyway... can anyone give me a small tutor on how to set up configurations on an older machine (I do have an older PC with only MS-DOS, but need to configure the parralell port card etc.) I'd also like to use Star Commander, if anyone can give me a proper tutor on that, regarding the XM-1541 cable ofcoz!
Cheers. |

@Graham
Would Direct I/O work on Windows XP, or will I need to use DOS or an older OS? |

Downgrading Userport in Bios, install UserPort (part of
the starcommander package i downloaded) and that even
works with X1541-Kabel but with some "glitches" under XP.
(f.e. "Reconfigure" UserPort after boot)

As mentioned earlier, cbm4win would be the way to go. |
