8580 hardware hack for digi replay
Hi,
last night I tried to follow the instruction reported in C=Hacking #20 on how to make the SID 8580 play the digis with a "normal" digi replay routine (Turbo Outrun tune for example). The hack consists in soldering a 330kOHM resistor directly on the motherboard between the EXT IN and GND pins of the SID.
As far as I've heard it works great, sounds like an 8580 but plays digis just like a 6581. So I'd say the hack is worth to be done, besides it's quite easy, just make sure you don't get the SID pins too warm.
Does anyone have feedback about it?

Of course this hack would mean that you get the click when just changing volume as well, a "feature" of the 6581 that isn't necessary desirable. But I guess it's up to each and everyone to decide if it's worth it. :-) |

I'm not sure it would be wise to flip the switch while the computer is on... |
