just wondering if someone can tell me what is the best program to use to get files from a d81 image???

try "64Copy" for example...

depends on what you're planning to do
under windows totalcommander with the dircbm-plugin (http://sourceforge.net/projects/dircbm/) became handy for me
though you kinda have to say good-bye to the original filenames :)
