Music Hardware for C64
Hello!
This question is not strictly scene-related,but...
Does anybody know if, and where, music hardware for the C64 is sold in these days? I am thinking of stuff like Stereo SID hardware of various sorts, MIDI interfaces, and so on. (I am not interested in stuff like "Hard SID" now or so.. only c64 hardware.)
I am aware of this one:

...but what more is out there?

You have Cynthcart, not sure if its still available as hardware or only software nowdays?
The original site, http://qotile.net/cynthcart.html , seems to be down for me. |

Ah, that one.. yes... (That site seems to be down for me too, yes.)

Update:
A guy called "Fotios" sold stereo SID carts and MIDI interfaces (and a few other things as well) just a year ago or so, but do not seem to be doing any business now (all items are marked "out of stock"). The hunt continues...
There is also SID2SID (but that would conflict with other carts since it is adressed using $de00 and upwards, and I don't like that):

MIDI using MSSIAH seems to be quite limited to, since it does not allow for other software than the built in one (if we are to believe the FAQ).. |

@Frantic. I ordered FB-MIDI from Fotios just a few months before this summer. Just email him, and he'll build one. ;) |

or maybe you could consider to go the do-it-your-self way. After all it's not that hard, recently I have see more and more people trying out with C64-modding (check Messiah forum).
You could use the stereo-SID card and add a switch selector to select the chip select line you want ($de00 and $df00 are easy, but with a little work you can set it to almost any address you want) |

If any of you is interested in a SID2SID board, I can help you out. I've got a few of those boards readily assembled and for sale.
All you need to do is:
- open up your C64;
- remove the SID from your C64 and put it on the board;
- add a 2nd SID;
- plug the board in the socket of the SID;
- solder one wire to the cartridge port;
- find a place to put the 2nd output.
And I need to know if you want to use it with 6581 or 8580, as the filter caps differ.
You can't mix both models on the board and also they both need to be the same as the SID you're replacing.
It can be modded, but you need extra components to regulate the voltage. And I don't have those...
It's fixed to $DE00 (or $DF00 if you choose another pin on the cartridge port). Circuitry to change that IS technically possible, but won't fit on the board.
PM me if you're interested. |
