Keeping my devices in good shape
Hi,
A fellow told me that the belts of my C64 tape/disk drives and printers tend to "break" with time, unless taken care of. He suggested that I apply some silicone oil to the belts. Here's a picture of the stuff he recommends:
Do the belts really deteriorate over time? Is this a good idea at all? |

do you know which capasitors inside c64 that are the most important to replace?
And my PSU (the new white modell) has no screws, how do i open it?

Opening the PSU is a real pain. You need to use a screwdriver and/or a scalpel/knife to remove the bottom cover. The only way to put it back together is by gluing it somehow, but that's the easy part. Once you open the PSU, you'll see it's all sealed. You'll need a larger screwdriver and a hammer (no kidding) to break through all that plastic (or whatever that material is). Once you are done, your PSU will never be as heavy as before. :)

If you have sealed PSU for C64,then you don¨t have to open it.The trafo is completely flooded by epoxy.Open the C64 and check the caps there. The big ones. |

Never seen a drive belt fail among my many 1541 drives.
Some of those were dug up from a pool of mud years ago, and dried using a hair-dryer, they still work to this day.
I tend to think these drives will outlast roaches or possibly survive a nuclear war ;)
(1571 is another thing entirely, so many problems) |

I opened up my brown powersupply, and the plastic was melted. So I must by some new components and fix it.
If you wonder, why so clear photo, I have "Schneider - Kreuznach" lens on my digital camera :)
