Dear CSDb, please help us solve an argument
So, we're having this heated discussion with my gf about the electric stove. She says that if I place a pot on the side of it, the water will boil faster, rather than if it's placed on the center of it. I think it doesn't really matter, the water will boil by the same time on both places.
What do you think, which one is a faster way to boil water?
So, same size of pot, same amount of water, but different locations on the stove.
Oh and sorry for the topic but this makes us nuts, and we'd really need 3d party opinions, you're our only hope :)

you could have foretold this, because when the pot is on the side, there is no or very less amount of heat coming to that side of the pot, from the side. air gets heated, and the pot is also heated on the sides. |

ok. just keep in mind that one doesnt contribute to the case of the other at all, and if your plan was to be contraproductive in your own matters, then you won. epic.
and as for the original question: its a classic :) you can solve it by looking at how that plate works, precisely by locating were the heating coils are located in it. (hint: there is no such thing in the center). measuring the effect is difficult even under lab conditions though, as the plate itself diffuses the heat a lot.
(this is SUCH a typical thing to get into a discussion with your gf. LOL)

Well, first of all, I really didn't mean to cause any harm to the site's integrity, please note that I even apologized in the first post for not being scene-related, but if you think that I deserve a ban, so be it, woo-hoo.
But taking the advantage of a stupid votesystem to get revenge on people you don't like (what I addressed as immature in the other thread) is a tad different than opening a chilled out topic and asking for an opinion from people I know and might have the technical knowledge to give me an advice. Yes, stupid question, this probably wasn't the place for it, I'll use Yahoo! Answers next time. My bad, sorry. |

really, dont get me wrong. i have absolutely nothing agains topics like this, even if i think they dont belong here.
also taking revenge on people you dont like is the whole goddamned point of every public voting in existance. if you want expert opinion on a work of art, simply dont ask the general public. |

According to RaveGuru the sunken center on the plates is used to heat the heroine before you shoot it.
Also, what are the results of test 2 and 3?

I performed another test with pretty much the same difference (+/- 5 sec).
And I was also asked to try the experiment with a smaller pot as well. Makes sense. |
