Looking for 1541 ultimate experiences
Hi all,
I'm considering getting the
http://www.1541ultimate.net/content/index.php
Before doing so I'd like to hear from anybody who has first hand experience.
My biggest concern is how will the 1541 emulation is implemented and how fast loaders and cartridges work with it. Also, does it have built-in fast loader?
Thanks for sharing.

1541 emulation is virtually 100%, everything just works. There might be a few .g64 or other nifty copy protected disks that give problems, but anything on .d64 will work.
It doesnt have a fastloader built in, but it emulates cartridges, like action replay and final cartridge. So you can use the fastloaders of those cartridges instead. Also you can load a different rom into the emulated 1541, like jiffy dos.
There are still some problems, at least with the 1541u-I version. Specifically with the way the freezers of the cartridges are handled and with the network emulation (RRnet emulation).
If you want it to watch demos, play games, then it is THE device for you. If you want it for codenet, you might not be satisfied because of the bugs/mistakes in the rrnet emulation.
The ones you can order now, the 1541u-II, I have no experience with. The 1541u-II does not have network as of yet (but maybe it will in the future through the USB port).

its wonderful, the best hardware extension made for c64 ever.
i havent used my real 500+ c64 disks for 2 years, i just use the 1541U, and it just works.
i code demos in the turbo ass that is in the TASS cartridge, which has action replay inside too, so its fastloader+sprite ripper, monitor, and all those things, in 1 unit.
just write TASS in basic , and you fly!
a few bugs happen, but not many, all demos and games work, and with F3 (DMA load), you load a 202 block program in 2 secs.
i would say, get it before Gideon stop making them, its the best there ever was. its SSD for your C64.
and it has built in .sid player
