Open petition to make all votes public
Inspired by Fungus' open petition: I want all CSDB-Votes public.
like: 3 month people get the time to correct/erase any votes until they
get public.
It's all about balls ;)

While this is unlikely to happen, after countless debates and discussions in CSDb history, sign me in.
I think a gradual transition from anonymous votes to public votes is a more likely option practically. But it requires some more implementation, and I am not sure if Perff would like to do it.
What I mean is basically a procedure/transition as the following:
1) Keep all past anonymous votes anonymous.
2) Disable all future anonymous voting (make all future votes public).
3) Inform anonymous voters their future votes will be public (via Guru or each time they try to vote etc).
4) Present an option for anonymous votes to be replaced with public votes till a certain, reasonable deadline.
5) When deadline hits, delete all anonymous votes. Not sure if this is really practical, feel free to propose a more practical idea here.
Steps 2, 3 and 4 are likely to happen at once, but I wrote them separately to clarify.
All above is just a quick dump of what I have been thinking on the subject, nothing carved in stone, and none of it means anything remotely like "this is the only right thing to do (TM)".
So, have fun debating. :-)

you simply have to convince everyone to make their votes public, its THAT easy, and THAT likely to happen. |

No, you just have to make a new rule; "all future votes will be public". Whether anonymous voters like it or not, they will have to comply (just like others had to comply with current situation all those years, eventhough complaining in some way).
Just because somebody made a bad decision/rule in the beginning does not mean it should be stuck there forever.
Edit: Needless to say, "bad" is used above relatively. |

and just because a small minority doesnt stop whining, we will not change what appearently is what the majority wants. so as long as the majority (currently more than 2 third) chooses to keep votes anonymous, there is very little point to even discuss this.
and by now i actually think that what someone else mentioned on irc the other day is true - it was wrong to even start with this public-votes features. and it was true that as soon as its active, the usual suspects will find something else to whine about.
as for that, i'll do the nazimod and close the thread while pointing to the rules and what it says about whining about the rules. plan your little revolution elsewhere if you must. |
