Neuromancer/CPX, working version

Looking for a working version of Cyberpunx' crack of Neuromancer. The versions I have (admittedly retrieved from dodgy sites) all crash when entering The Gentleman Loser. This also goes for Soci's IDE64-fix, which is based on CPX's crack. I can't believe it was broken when it left Count Zero's and L'trimm's hands...

Fung: Yup, except for the ide64-fixed version :)

Versions I've tried:

1. I've got one version from http://members.optusnet.com.au/vortex69/HARD_DRIVE-CMD/CMD-GAME.. (it needs to be copied onto a d81 file).

2. Soci's IDE64-fix is from CSDB

3. Ian Coog/HF did an unofficial HF release, reducing the size of the IDE64-fix here http://iancoog.altervista.org/HF/index.html, and that version also suffers from the problem.

I've only tested these on Vice 1.21/linux and Vice 2.0/Win32, since I don't have a 1581 drive.

They all seem to crash when you enter The Gentleman Loser.

How to get there:

Use PAX to download 40 credits.
Pay Ratz the 46 credits you owe him so you don't get busted by the lawbot outside the bar.
Walk S to exit the bar, then E, E, S, S, S, W
And then it crashes.

The file "0c092" could very well be broken.

wreg: This should answer your PM, too.

I have 7 different versions of this game, maybe 6. I haven't played them since I lost my originals, but have played the PC version of it recently.

Perhaps one will work for you..

I left the file "open", in case it needs to be deleted.

Thanks for the effort on digging through your stuff. Unfortunately, these are the same ones available individually here, they're 1541 only.

Guess I'll keep lookin, unless anyone has the original disks they wanna nibble and put up somewhere so someone can do a proper 1581/HD crack? :D

I've deleted your entry. I strongly feel CSDb shouldn't be abused in this way, if you want to share files use rapidshare or something.

theres a 4 disk version hacked by OUG online that works well, even tested the problem you had, it worked fine.
I think you can find it on one of the many c64 repositories online.
not sure if it's allowed to post a link here.

or I could upload that version here if you like.

You also said you wanted someone with the originals.

Well, I also have those, yeah, real untouched original disks, which I could nibble and upload...

I did? Where?

Pete Rittwage at c64preservation.com would be happy to receive a set of disks to compare to the two sets he already has.

Nice. And this one even works :)

Turns out 5 bytes were broken in the aforementioned 0c092-file. Using the file from Neuromancer fixes Neuromancer. Crazy Edo's will still need fixing, though...

Didnt know there is a thread on it - sorry :)

We really played the complete game several times as there was no rush, so it should be 100% apart from the text bug which interplay introduced to the IRS database.

Please test the upload and rant any problems at me.
It is unlikely there will be another release for special hardware or as iffl or alike by me although I sure would find some things the game could use as improvement. :)

C0: I *knew* I should've been clearer :) I wasn't talking about your recent upload. Entering Crazy Edo's leads to crashes in the corrupted CPX version that (among others) the IDE64-fix is apparently based on. The broken IDE64 version can probably be repaired by copying the data files from Neuromancer (your recent upload -- linked for future reference), as this version appears uncorrupted.

:)

Actually the term "fix" is probably starting the whole confusion :)

Something using standard routines (and therefore working with about any drive and speeder from Jiffy to Prologic) shouldn't require "fixing" to work on some special device. There is a flaw in the IDE64 approach imho. :)

Well, whoever does an easyflash version, contact me...
