Looking for a Fast Loader.
I found on one of my old floppies this Fast Loader program. It reads the directory, assigns to A-Z letters the filenames (so only 26 filenames are stored) then pressing the correspondent key start to turbo-load the program. I'm pretty sure I modified the title at the top and renamed the file when I was 16 (or maybe older) so I'd like to find it in its original state. Searching all Turbo Loaders here is impossible, there are tons of them. Some help anyone? Thank you in advance.

If you modified it, you were not very creative with the name. :-)
I'd say upload it, then it should be possible to find other versions by looking for code lines in the archive. |

Search 'menu' in releases. It yields results like 'Menu Maker', 'Menu Creator' etc. They look similar to your screen. |

Didn't the AR cart use to do this? I remember having a few menus like this on disks I got with my C64. |

Thanks for your replies. I finally found it on a disk image of AR 3.0 utilities. Looks like I didn't only changed the title, but removed the F1/F7 keys, shortened the code by one disk block and made the drive led flashing during the load....

Quoting ComosI think I have this one in my collie.I do collect sw fast loaders too, have approx 80 of them in my archive now. That's an interesting thing to collect. What's the reason? Are there any sub-categories? Minimum requirements to be added? Age restrictions? Sorting criteria? Speed/size/other metrics? :) |

From certain period, I don't have any criteria,so I do collect any of them, which I miss :)Over the years I have approched to various loaders which exists in several mostly visual modifications. The reason why I started to collect them was just curiosity. It started more than 20+ years ago, where the most common fastloader found on my floppies was named "SPEEDER" or in most cases just "S" in 1st place in dir.It does not have any name, but the most recognizable attribute is the autostart, B/W screen and a loading counter.Others like "HYPRALOAD" or just "!" were also common which beside the name had a credit of the year or the author.Later fastloaders like "DIO", "MOST-ACCESS 2.0", "ULTRA" were the top ones and I have used em as a benchmark for comparison and also when some games were using kernal calls, but made vector restore where example with FC3 will run stock speed afterwards, but with the fastloader installed still load fast. The first sign of a fastloader that I have in my collie is from 1983/1984 as I recall.Anyway it might be interesting to have an fastloader entry in database with year, speed factor and other criteria like autostart, disk catalog or other specialities :) |
