yep :) good idea... i dont have a working 1541 anymore (well, i have 3 drives, but they all seem to be broken)... so i just use my 1541u...

so, i say YES to the invention of the USB-stick, SD-Cards and whatever ;-)

I think your idea is stupid
No, acutally it's not. Maybe it wasnt well thought through, but it's not stupid. I'd suggest both posibilities.

c64 Discs AND USB (or whatever other modern mumbo jumbo you prefer)

I've had the problem myself at the past 2 X's. I dont have either any floppy discs nor any real hardware.
And i know a couple of other composers who have the same problem.

And running around, begging for a disc and finding someone to transfer your shit is honestly a pain in the ass.

to cut it simple:

1) person has his release
2) compo crew copies it, no matter what media its on

if they want to run all from 5.25 floppy, its their business.

i just dont wanna give them a damn floppy every time i go to a party.

1) because i dont want to give away floppies
2) because i have my release on a D64 on a pc, SD card etc.

yawn harries, you're generating problems where there are none. if we can read your data on whatever media, its fine.

hell, you can just email your entry prior to the party.

you don't mean this for real, do you? didn't you see the transfer-team in action? common!

I did, and i appreciate your hard work. But i didn't think to go and bother you as i knew you probably had more discs to transfer than time.
I didn't really know you guys that good enough to feel comfortable with asking to interrupt your (important) transfer work, give me a free disk etc etc.

Instead, I bummed GRG or Jan for a disk and had to wait for Devia to finish his compotune (felt like hours) so Jan could transfer my stuff on his c64 (and the deadline was like 10 minutes ago).

I didn't feel comfortable with that either, but i knew Jan has a soft heart :-D BTW : Thanks Jan!

You knew wrong, my friend.
Let me point this out: there is no moldy, wrinkled, stained or cut-to-pieces floppy more important than compo entries!
At X-2010 I'd be more than happy to interrupt the rather tedious work of flipping anonymous floppies to transfer any PC media to 5.25" floppy in order to see a happy face and learn the name that comes with it :-)

And vice versa, but what better opportunity is there become acquainted with eachother?! ;-)

So I guess it's safe to say that if the organizers are nazis, you can go to the highly appreciated transfer team to get something copied to disk :P

we will state our preferred media on the X10 website for compo entries. I remember scout or wevel saying it was a bitch getting things converted to d64 first lol ;)

one thing remains: all compo's will be run on the real thing with a 1541. old and new sid.

just talking on personal behalf, but I'm sure scout and wvl can shed some light on what they prefer.

PS: lets all hug Joe now ;)
