What C64-songs were sampled here?
I recently found an album from 1999: Attract Mode by COiN. It seems like the whole album was made by sampling C64-songs, editing them and adding other sounds on top.
That violates copyrights and so on, but the important question is: where did he sample it from? I have to admit that I can't name many sources after Arkanoid at the start. Can you?
The full album is on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-D5RzaF8UT4
The challenge is on! |

Quote: WTF does this mean?
"Every synthetic beep, chirp, buzz, drone you hear on this album was ripped directly from videogame soundtracks composed between 1983-88. The original scores were painstakingly coded in Basic on a Commodore 64 home microcomputer. The raw data was converted by Coin into waveforms and assembled into new full length tracks using cut and paste techniques associated with modern software."

BASIC? yeah, no. cut and paste techniques? what is this silliness? is this some kind of bad translation from german to english? this album is terrible. |

oh good lord this album is worse. the text in the youtube description is all kinds of pretentious nonsense:
Quote:
"Coin is a neo-retro band comprised of German born uber-diva, Walter, and master percussionist, Thermos Malling. Their penchant for explosive lyricism, juxtaposed with 4-bit 1980's video game soundtracks brings a distinct and refreshing change of pace to the pap at the top of the charts. The incomparable sounds of Coin evoke feelings of excitement, defiance, passion and fury and are sure to leave listeners and audiences alike gratefully exhausted.
Architects of Character is an irreverent album filled with brilliant social commentaries on post-modernism. Coin spares no sacred cows. Front woman Walter, known for her high impact and animated shows, exudes such a force on the album that listeners can tangibly feel her presence.
The Wobbler (Track 15), challenges eating disorders as man is manifested as Pac Man. Battlefield (Track 9) mocks the age-old debate between Neo-Classism and Marxian theory. Daylighthorizon (Track 8) is a biting satire of nuclear non-proliferation.
Listeners are also treated to an homage to the great eighties band Journey. The band's cover of Journey's Loving, Touching, Squeezing hits a home run in a stylistically sound that can only be described as Coin."
yeah.. lame. |

Not even close to be my cup of tea either. I don't really see any reason to get more than 0.003% upset about it though. Can't blame someone (coin in this case) for listening to some C64 music, feeling inspiration, and starting to sample stuff and cutting things up and adding some singing and... so forth.
Have a beer and relax guys. |

Quoting Franticfeeling inspiration
I wonder if it's the same kind of inspiration Timbaland had those many years ago:
Quote:I don't know him from a can of paint. I'm 15 years deep. That's how you attack a king? You attack moi? Come on, man. You got to come correct. You the laughing stock. People are like, 'You can't be serious'.

I don't mind lending a little, but failing to mention the sources makes me at least 0.004 % upset, which effectively means that I'll point my finger and say "Bad boy.", which can be pretty scary for the wrongdoer. This goes for the C64 productions too, be a good guy/girl and mention the source if you lend. |

So this asshat converted waveforms into waveforms and ripped game soundtracks, composed for a 4-bit computer, from 1983-88 somehow including Clystron from 1993. Fuck please. |
