Downvoting, for what reasons?
Seems I got two inverse mega fans. They gave me a set of 1 point votes.
I was a bit interested in finding out who that was, since I've never heard of them or seen any posts from either of them on CSDb.
The votes in question are registered to Auslaender and abracadabra, which is perfectly ok, if they think I suck...
At first I just clicked the abracadabra link and some pretty empty profile with a picture of a magician showed (refered to a guy call Mira, too!). I thought, hmm, strange.. Maybe someone who'd like to conceal himself or something... Didn't think much of it to be honest.
I wasn't untill another one showed. Auslaender!. Strange handle, but then again, we're strange people most of us.. I wonder who that is!.. No profile, when doing a profile search.. Though I'd search the forum for posts, and .. bang... All my indifferent discussions with Nata showed, only Nata showing as Auslaender!.. Sigh!.. Why?.. For what use?.. I don't get it.. He can vote me all the way to the bottom of the list for all I care, but I'm really disappointed.. I hope someone else hacked his profile or something, because that would mean that I didn't misjudge Nata in the past. |

Quote: That's a general problem with voting. If people know the voting result before voting, they don't give the vote they think somebody deserves, but they vote in a way to modify the result to match their personal thinking.
I think the voting system would be better if you didn't see the result before you have voted. That would also make more people vote :)
sadly thats impossible, imagine having to vote for *all* demo groups to be able too see the top 10 ;)
no, you simply have to ban childish voters, or require a certain userlevel to be able to vote. (like 10+ votes from other non-kid users) |

Most voters are "childish" and let themselves influence by the result they have just seen. |

I know this has probably been disgussed before.. but why not remove the "anonymous voting" feature ?
Are people really THAT afraid of letting the people they vote for, know what they voted?

Actually I tested this in a "unmoderated" photo contest on one of the portals I'm programming, and it was quite like you are describing ;-). Everyone had his own "top" made from the photos he had casted votes for.Plus there was an extensive admin for checking of ill and manipulative voting like too much 9 and 1 etc. We could identify and ban such manipulators, but actually there was never 100% fair results.. so we have decided to handpic the best photos instead (with the help of the "rank" influencing our judgement).

The following threads already contain hundreds of posts considering the same topic, basically we're just repeating the same old here.

Downvoting is ok, as far as wdr is concerned. And as long as you have the guts to stand up for your votes by making them public.
Groepaz, why don't you make your votes public? What keeps you from stepping out of anonymity? |

Maybe a new cathegory "Behavior" should be added? ;)
Then you can downvote those you don't like, instead of downvoting people as musicians, coders or whatever, just because you don't like them.
