MEGA demo

What exactly warrants the title MEGA Demo? No category for it so I'm just curious as it was a common expression for any demo spannig across one disk side.

I can't remember having read that very frequently, but I'd rather than with +1 disk sides associate that with sth done by several groups like DOTY but I guess, ppl also used the term rather arbitrarily just as a synonym for "more than 1 part" or just some kind of superlative meaning "mega cool/must have".

imho its not more than one part, but more than one file (usually one disk side, seldomly two) :) quite a loose term indeed =)

In the beginning, demos were usually one file, with one or more parts. So when people started combining several files with a loader inbetween it was dubbed a megademo, since it was unusually large for the time.

I believe the term originated from the Amiga? where a disk worth of demo (with some compression) was around 1mb in total hence the word megademo?

no, C64 scene used that term before the first amiga megademos were made. (and certainly it has no relation whatsoever to "megabyte")
