to sid or 3sid

Has anyone done 3 sid versions of existing sid music? instead of one osc per voice, a full sid per voice.

Some time ago I thought about making a version of "Chordian" with the exact same sounds except real chords instead of arpeggio chords, using 2SID or 3SID.

Still not sure if it would be worth the trouble.

I'll be the judge of that!

Seriously though, it sounds awesome.

A player that I sometimes work a bit on allows multi channel sounds, but I am in no hurry to complete it. Apart from that I haven't seen anything like that. I think ppl sometimes make 2chn "detuned" sounds (jeff?), and that is reminiscent of this I guess.

Back in 1998 I made some Quattro-SID-Tunes (4SID). Those tunes can be found in deepsid's exotic folder. Look for the Tunes starting with "A-D_*":
https://deepsid.chordian.net/?file=/Exotic%20SID%20Tunes%20Coll..

My naming-scheme is "A.tunename" for first SID up to "D.tunename" for fourth tune.

(there are just three tunes, another two unfinished/early worktunes are lost forever due to disk corruption)

I had 4 SIDs in my C64 (250407), placed on a proper and neat (no flyin' wires) prototype-board built by my best friend Cyclone.

The setup was (in fact still is, beside two missing SIDs):
1. SID 6581R4AR, $D400 (left)
2. SID 6581R3, $D500 (right)
3. SID 6581R3, $D600 (left)
4. SID 6581R4AR, $D700 (right)

Only some time later we learned that this is not the ideal addressing as $D600-$D7FF is a reserved memory area on C128 and hence cannot be used. But as this was a prototype only, well, we could not care less... ;)
In fact we were not aware of any other C64 with 4SIDs. Were there any?

All tunes were pre-arranged on protracker on Amiga (but the more I think about it, the more confident I become it actually was fasttracker on pc due to 12 channels) and then transcribed to C64 into "my own" hacked version of DMC4. This version could handle two tunes: one for editing, live composing, etc. and the 2nd tune packed and relocated in memory. Both tunes could be switched, making it possible to edit both tunes in one session, albeit not simultaneously.
But it was at least possible to play both tunes simultaneously to check your current work.

For those 4SID tunes it was a bit different as I somehow felt like a juggler by loading/saving/editing/da capo al fine/ into my 2SID stereo-editor.

many moons ago (1996ish) TePe lend me a C64 with 4 SIDs in it... it sat on my shelf for years, never did anything with it, then sent it back to him.

i am not very fond of "many SID" stuff myself - it only becomes boring generic synth music to me (like this 8sid stuff released some time ago). To me the whole charm of SID tunes is the limitations, the arpeggios, the "stuffed" bass+drums, etc pp. i havent heard many stereo tunes that i liked either for that matter :)

Back then around '97/'98 I also build a 4-SID C64-Prototype where Cosowi supplied the extra SID's. It was finally provided to Crossbow, who should create the Player/Editor for Cosowi. Not sure, but that prototype might be still on the shelf. Nevertheless it also had the memory layout with $d400,$d500,$d600,$d700, so far I remember.
Though I enjoy multiple SIDs music (eg. Raindropsies [2sid]) and it is simple to emulate more than one SID, the challenge stays on the real thing/stock C64.

Searching on https://deepsid.chordian.net/ for '3sid' gives just 21 entries, like 3SID_Tracker_Demo_3.sid from Hermit which might be one example of what the OP was asking for.

Most of the time I agree with this. The charm of composing SID is to see how far you can get inside the confines of the three voices. After all, isn't that also the point of making demos on the C64 too, to see what awesomeness we can reach using its graphical limitations?

Sometimes I also feel the same about multispeed and digi.

That being said, I'm as curious as the next guy and might still fiddle with multiple SID at a later time. So yeah, double standards.

given more time Bob Yannes could have fitted easily 6 or more voices on the SID, so why not try out what it could have been :)

There are of course many multisid combinations and tunes made for them. However, one can imagine using a full sid per one sound instead of maximizing the number of tracks one can get. So, just looking for improved sounds to existing single sid tunes. The sound routine could be much more like synthesizers have. Well, it sounds awesome in my mind at least. Perhaps one day.
