Out of Retro Replay?

After 15 years on the same hardware, i decided to buy myself a RetroReplay + RR-net. Mainly to transfer alot of disks that i found on the attic while we moved to our new flat :). Now i can not find a place to buy one! gurumeditation.se is out of stock, and ar.c64.org seems to be dead since ages. WHERE!?!?!? Please help me!

David!! :D I can't believe the man of the old-junk hardware is buying a retro-replay :) Is this really the same guy who coded Royal Arte on a tv on which he could not see the bugs in the sideborders? :)

I'm shocked.. :)

Hey, don't answer him, answer my question about flashing the RR instead!

Btw, are you going to visit PS?

Flashing the RR? Hmm, i have a Pentax camera, is that flash enough?!

And oh, I have bought new hardware since then: A monitor! Have you ever seen any sideborder bugs since then ;).

Royal Arte.. Yepp. Did you know that the 1:st price at MekkaSymposium, where i won with R.A. included a Retro Replay? I never got it because it wasn't ready enough to be delivered etc.. And now, 4 years later, I have to BUY one! Ain't that sucky!

Who is going to PS? and Who is PS?

Heh, I won a RR at Breakpoint 2004 too, and haven't gotten it either. But that's not the organisers' fault, but DPD who delivered Fanta's package to the wrong guy, who stole it.

PS is the Role party in NL. If you are interested in HW: they keep a HW tossing competition (I believe the world record for LC10 is 20 meters) and these blokes hand out joysticks and datarecorders by the dozens..

@Hein: this reminds me I still have to catapult your boxes across the parking lot :)

So probably the only RR ever won at a party that actually arrived to it's new owner belongs to Clarence (he won that at x2001).

HCL : I remember the monitor, i think i saw it at some symmek or breakpoint... but i'm not 100% sure :)

TDJ : ofcourse i'm coming, and i'll flash your RR for you if you do some flashing of your own for me ;D

Throwing up is sooo passe :) In order to drive the prices of HW I suggest to have the participants to bring their own gear :)

As long as NL has both cheaper booze & more ganja than Gunnar can smoke overnight, the probability Swedish dudes end up in NL (rather than the reverse) is expected to be high (no pun intended)..

I sure would be at Primary Star if it wasn't for me leaving the Netherlands for Venice on that unfortunate weekend. And that thing about swedish dudes ending up in .nl is probably right. Atleast I did, although semi-permanently. If any of you dutch sceners ever feel like meeting in Amsterdam some time, i'm available.

Correction: Oswald at X2001 won the RR (Soiled Legacy) which I bought from him last year(I think Oswald did regret it since RR-net and Graham tools came out :) ).

Gosh, you guys really needed to talk!! It's like you were just waiting for someone to open a new thread for you to abuse ;).

Why don't you guys start doing one of those conversation demos again? They're just soooo khooovl! You know, an animated TDJ-sprite with a 1x1-scroller, a Ben-sprite and a Hein-sprite, also with their own 1x1-scroller. Then just add 50K of bullshit and you're done! It's a straight 10! Plus that todays data-kids will call you inovative!

Problems with flashing?
I had problems with it too but in the end it was my own fault by not RTFM :-/

If you go to the SCL 1337-area (just follow those girls in bikini's) at PS05, you see the RR+Codenet in action too.

Yeah, crossdevelopment (with or without codenet) is a blessing. Thanx for introducing me too it.

Wonderful weekend, better than christmas :). New hardware beats the most! But some problems remain..

I flashed the rom, no problemo, and after a while i figured it's a *crossed* patch-cable that i need to connect the RR-net. I'm not a network boy, so i don't have a LAN at home. It should be ok with a crossed cable, shouldn't it?

Anyways, the leds on the RRnet blips as if it was happy, but i can not send the simplest codenet-command. What could *possibly* be wrong?! Any qualified suggestions!?

More info.. I flashed TheFinalReplay-rom with default settings (i never ran setip.exe) so i think it's set to 192.168.1.64.

Quick pre-answers.. :). Yes, i turned ON the PC. Yes, i HAVE a network card. Yes, I plugged the cable into the PC at the other end of the RRnet. Ok. Shoot! ;)

I think you should use a router (or similar netwrork device) with lan ethernet ports (typically your dsl/cable router) to help communicate the pc and c64. I don't know if direct connection is possible to your lan card, never tried it.
Then your router's configurations decide what will be your lan area (the x in 192.168.x.64 , or your pc ip).

You need either a hub/switch/router, or more usefully, a crossover network cable instead of a normal one. Of course, some modern netwrokc cards (including most laptops) can "auto-crossover", but many can't too, i guess.

I got my RR-Net last monday and this is how I made it work:

Onboard ethernet (100 mbit) -> DSL: (192.168.0.1)

Network adapter (1 gbit, of course the C64 has to have maximum bandwidth!) -> C64 via crossed patchcable
IP of Gigabit Lan card: 192.168.1.1
IP of C64: 192.168.1.64

Flashed The Final Replay 0.2, I enter codenet, check for the correct IP, then hit the Send Server button in Warpcopy 0.4. Works fine. No other experiences with codenet, sorry.

Seems like the cross-cable just woun't do, at least not without extra gear like hubs or routers :(. Maybe all the bright brains at PS can find out a way to make it work this weekend, in that case please post the solution :). I also called my super-guru-boy. He's currently dressing up in a phone-box on some near-by planet, so he'll be here in any mili-second.

Naah, basically just want to make sure that I can connect my rr-net to my laptop .. so even a 2 port hub (if they exist) would be enough ;)

HCL, as I said, a crossed cable is enough, you don't need a hub or any extra gear. Just separate the IP adresses of your 2 network cards in the PC (the DSL one gets like 192.168.0.1, the one connected to the C64 gets 192.168.1.1). Then assign 192.168.1.64 to the C64 and it should work fine.

At least this is how it worked for me, and I can be considered a networking idiot as well. ;-)

Not lazy, cheap .. because I don't want to pay for something I'll never need anymore.

Super-guru-boy made my day! Not by letting me win that game of squash, but he easily clicked my network working. My home network is now ultimate and complete! I will start sucking all my disks ;). Even Super-guru-boy (alias Swallow/Censor) was a bit impressed how far todays technology has reached on the c64, so maybe he'll let me suck his disks as well.

And better than that.. When everything was working, i found the Contiki-disk that followed the hardware. That thing is just soooo sweet! I think Super-guru-boy will soon convert from linux to Contiki, as it has everything you need! He also clicked some check-boxes in IE to connect to the contiki web-server. Super-internet!! It was christmas again!! Hehe.. Multitasking OS on the c64, it's just swell. I clicked to transfer the whole d64 to my laptop, it took more than 7 minutes :). However, meanwhile i started the dir.prg and my diskdrive got really busy for a while ;))), but it f**kn worked!
