Hi, for music, try SDI, sid does it by grg+gt, just use the search in this site. get v 1.9
also get the sdi packer
and get turbo assembler for coding
and RTFM of the tools, just once to begin with, then you know what they can, and will remember a few things when you try them the first time.

how would you store 2 MB of samples in a 64 KB memory? and how would you mix 16 channels of samples with a 1 MHz 8 bit cpu? there is no possibility to play XMs on a c64, and there's also no possibility to play MODs on c64... |

You're in the wrong site man, this is C64 !
To make tunes on PC, a very good prog is Renoise.
www.renoise.com
Use forum on Renoise website to get more help.
Always read the doc :-) |

Making mods on C64 not possible
Making XM tunes on C64 not possible
making SID tunes (3 channels chip music ) on c64 is possible. Making SID tunes on PC (in tracker-like editor) is possible (in an editor called Goat Tracker)
for your info: questions concerning making XM and MODS on C64 are showing that you are quite ignorant as far as Commodore64 is concerned.

I'm pretty sure modplayer needed an REU, but it does work okay for simple MODs. Kinda noisy, but still a cool achievement. |

It's Comm-o-dore, not Commendore! What am I supposed to think if you can't even spell the name of the machine you're trying to make your very first steps on?
Word of advice: This forum is a great pool of knowledge about probably all questions you're going to ask. Do a little research in old threads first (there's even a search function, surprise). |

Just out of curiosity.. You dont happen to be from Sweden? As no swedes seems to know how to spell Commodore. I've seen Commandor, Commendore and even Komodår. :) No offence, just something Ive noticed browsing too many auction sites.
As for doing "mod" / "xm". I suppose you're interested in doing music for the c64. We used to call it only music. Then some pc-ism got us into calling whatever piece of sound producing code as "sid". Though, sid is in no way comparable with mod apart from it being music. A sid is musicdata and c64 native code while a mod is just music data.
As suggested before download Goat Tracker if you want to do it on pc. If you want the real thing try out Jch , Sdi, John player, Dmc, Gmc, Future composer, Voice tracker or Music Assembler to name a few. you'll probably find most of them here via the search box. Or just look at http://digilander.libero.it/ice00/tsid/hvmec.html
btw. didnt that mod-player require a scpu too? or was it only a native c128? |

According to this page, there was first a C128-only version, then later a C64 version. Both require a REU.

on Mac too... and probably on other machines like Atari ST - those machines which have more horsepower. |

you need atleast some sort of 16 bit or more machine. PC is nowadays the way to go, but MODs are the native amiga sound format... |

My last post on this topic, as I'm such a nice person:
www.modarchive.com/software -> software to make mod/xm/it tunes
http://digilander.libero.it/ice00/tsid/hvmec.html -> software to make sid tunes
Don't ask us how to use them, RTFM instead. |

it is possible to make .wav's and .avi's and cinematic effects _on_ c64. all you have to do is to put your c64 on your chair then sit _on_ it while doing those things. Okay bad joke :). not as funny as the thread itself |
