Best Use of Colorbars

in an attempt to keep this forum alive, what's the best use of $d020/$d021 colorbars you've seen. i'm not talking about split rasters or any of the $d011 tricks, but basic manipulation of the the background colors. what used rotations, shading, multiple layers, etc. for example, i was always a fan of stormbringer's xds intro for the fact it kept track of two separate layers. feel free to add on.

I can't point out any cool ways of using colorbars right now but I also would like to add that I love them and any suggestions in this thread are most welcome by both me and Codey. ;D

Probably the best usage of raster colors was in the classic Papillons intro:

Beyond the Ice Palace +2

As for something more complex, Ikari / Paninaro intros come to mind:

Ikari Intro

Paninaro Intro

The NATO intro linked to the following release, it is simple but quite nice:

Ironhand

And the classic FBR intro:

FBR Intro (TLD)

PS. Ok, I had to edit this post a few times, as each time I saved changes, I remembered something more to mention.

I think the intro of Magic Disk 64 issue 11/89 (written by Ivo Herzeg) is one of the best uses of rasterbars. Sadly it's not on CSDb.

Chunk's SCG intro, definitely.

Grand Prix Circuit +F

Is an example. Maybe not overly advanced, but very well made, and good looking.

Hmmm, I guess I should fire up vim and start hacking together some rasterbar-code =)

Better wait! There'll be a lot of raster stuff in the future. And not only speaking for myself here :)

The return of the raster is imminent.

I'm in with Sander here. Rasterbars is bound to be the new black - I even tried to convince Pernod that this was the case on last BFP, but he didn't believe me. His loss.

And yeah, I love both Chunks SCG intro and Tri-Dos Ikari intro. S.E.S. also made some really good rasterstuff for both Fear and G*P.

I'd suggest these good old intros:

Dynamic Duo Intro

The Light Circle Intro

The Light Circle Intro

Remember, they are from 1986 (damn, 22 years ago!!)

Upfront, yes. Toaster is still a true rasterbar-classic.

Well if games are included then my vote goes to Andrew Braybrooks Alleykat. It wasn't that it did anything particular clever with the colour bars, it was just the use of colour itself. So often demos would stick to the boring green, blue, red, grey shades for bars - the G in the graftgold logo on Alleykat had some nice rainbow style colour scheme flowing through it. One thing though, the high score table appears to strobe the top and bottom line of the colour bars in some of the entries. Was this intentional or was this a genuine timing issue?

It's only recently that i've got decent bars done myself (25 years later :-/ ). Even now I dont have the time or patience to fully understand/bother with a cycle perfect stable raster so I just use a look up table of delays - I set up an area of memory which will contain the colour data and set everything to black/white on alternate bytes - I squeeze out the glitches from this which are easily identifiable by subtle adjustments in my delay table.

Mixer is an even better example of cool use of rasterbars. Check that intro!

A subject on an old school style, now we're talking! The old school scene was awesome.

Codey: that Exodus intro you linked into your first post on this topic has some of the prettiest of all raster bar colors.

Here are a couple more done with the same appeal...

and wait, one more...

http://intros.c64.org/inc_download.php?iid=2152

Stormbringer was the raster master!

It's pretty simple stuff now, but back in the old days I remember being blown away by the Drive intro on Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders

Some fine jewelry here - thanks!
Ofcourse Splitter should be on this list :) I remember Hazor having done more interesting rastertricks.
It's nice to read the scrollers in both Splitter and Charlatan - to read the bg story about it (release almost around the same time by).

Edit: One Hazor demo i was talking about Shitsplit.

Since we're now summing up cool rasterdemos anyway, I can't let this opporunity go by.
Check out Exuberat from my fellow Secure member Stratford.
