Crack\Trainer Bounty: Mail Order Monsters for C64

There has never been a good crack with trainer for Mail Order Monsters. I am offering a Crack\Trainer Bounty for the first modern cracking group to do this along with of course the prestige. I put the call out to Remembers, Nostalgia, Hokuto Force and Onslaught to take the challenge... Original with docs can be provided if necessary. The bounty will be $250 US Dollars payable to the winner or donated to whomever the winner would like. If multiple versions are done by different groups... the best rated one on CSDB wins the bounty. Submissions will be open until March 2012.

The Crack \ Trainer has to meet the following criteria:

100% Copy Protection Removed

PAL\NTSC Fixed

Docs

Money Trainer for max money (psychons) and option for unlimited money (everything free).

Energy Trainer so that energy is maxed and option for unlimited\frozen

Food Trainer so that Food is maxed and option for unlimited\frozen

Rounds (Ammo) Trainer so that ammo is maxed and option for unlimited\frozen

Life Trainer so that life is maxed and option for Inviulnerability\Freeze life value

Here is some info to get started with:

When playing jump into the monitor and add the following code:

AT $B000

$b000 LDA #$FF
$b002 STA $0D10
$b005 JSR $7990
$b008 RTS

AT $8488

$8488 JSR $B000

This does a brute force energy reset to 255 during the game for all monsters.
Not quite elegant, I know, but this might help you out.
Haven't tested it thoroughly and it might fail later on in the game.
The magic address is $0d10 so that could help some other guys doing a proper trainer for the game =)

Thanks and Good Luck.

Would be great if you could supply an original.
(I suppose if remember and such had a good original they would have done a super-version already)

The first one close the contest or you judge at the end of dealine (3/2012)?

I like this crack/trainer on demand idea!

As this thread may catch attention by some related people:

I'd like to extend the cheat list at http://rr.c64.org/wiki/Special:PrefixIndex?namespace=164&from= with anything you may have written down during your quests for trainers on games (including Mosters received by Mail) in the past.

Just pm - thx. :)

PS: ++ for the actual bounty! I'd even join if time wouldnt be that limited (to me).

All Thanks for the interest... The winner will be judged by highest rating here on CSDB. When a release is made, I'll post a link on lemon 64 and link back to your release on CSDB (or you guys could do it.). The best rated release on CSDB will claim the bounty. That is correct there is a .nib file in Gamebase for mail order monsters, if you guys want to use that as your source. I will also loan originals if necessary. I will publicly announce who I am loaning originals to. I am trusting those folks to send them back to me by the March 2012 deadline. If you are requesting originals I will need your address, I have two sets that I can loan. One set is up for grabs. The other set is resrved for and preference will be given to Remembers, Nostalgia, Hokuto and Onslaught, whomever from these 4 groups requests this first. If none of the 4 groups request an original set. I will consider making that one avialable for others. I am hoping this generate multiple releases by multiple groups like the good old days and we'll see who does it best.

Judging by the highest rating here on the CSDb might not be the way to go. You should stick with your personal rubric (for a whole host of reasons).

The best rated release on CSDB will claim the bounty. Anonymous voters included? No way!

"Best rated here" is indeed troublesome.
Why not simply "the one I like the most"?
Seriously.

Yeah, relying on the votes here isn't the best option. That sort of thing would work if the vote data was public information, but with the current anon system in place too many downvotes would spoil things.

Hmmm... you have a point, i forgot about anon voters here... Just trying to be democratic about the judging... Maybe I'll assemble a panel with me included, andrew who wrote the C64 games book, my contact at retro gamer magazine and another person or two... what do you guys think of that? I want this to be fair to all versions submitted not just based on my only opinion. I think a minimum of 3 judges would make it fair.

@trip6: even if there is no perfect solution, there is always a best.

imho, best solution is to create your own online voting webpage using public voting system. maybe you can try to make a little authentication system integration with CSDB by talking to the admins or you may approve sing up requests manually asking csdb id and e-mail information.

in short, you can make your own voting system, only allowed to CSDB accounts, but certianly with public votes.

or simply use csdb votes and ignore anonymous votes, public voters are visibile with their vote next to the handle.

Ok... The Shadow\Avatar has just joined the judges panel as the second USA judge. If somebody from the euro scene would like to volunteer for the last spot as the second euro scene judge with Count Zero that would be great. Please let me know if you are interested. I ideally would like a 5 judge panel. 2 Euro scene (Count Zero), 2 US scene (Moloch & The Shadow) and me as the tie breaker.

No, and if anyone would dare to submit a version i doubt it would be even half as good as Nostalgias.

Cash out.

Yeah its hard to beat Nostalgia. Fantastic version guys. Nostaglia is hereby declared the winner and claims the bounty. Please let me know who you would like the $250 USD payment submitted to. You can announce it here or message me in private. Thanks for creating such a great release, this game really deserved a good release and you guys really did it justice. Next crack\trainer bounty for next winter 2013... Autoduel by origin systems. Watch for the announcement. Thanks again.

Thanks for letting us win :)

@trip6:

We want you to give the bounty to charity and cancer research.
You can choose whatever company/organization you like - only make sure it goes to help the world with the fight against cancer.

And it would be nice if you post a proof here on csdb or lemon64 that the money was received by the organization/company.

best regards,

6R6 / Nostalgia

This is where I am thinking would be the best to donate to.

Nostalgia crew do you have any preference on the list of organizations for the world cancer fund? I would like to make the donation on your behalf this weekend. Let me know or I'll just pick one.

Thanks.
