Using fonts from competition in intro as charset

Hi

I want to use one font from 2013 competition (this one Plain Simple 2x2) and I'm a little bit confused about formats.

My intro code imports the charset for the scroller (kickassembler), but this font above is available as a .prg. which I guess is just the bitmap viewer, right?

Is there a proper way to convert that font to a format I can use? Or I need to create a PNG file and follow the process to convert it?

Thanks

Paulo

The proper way to convert is called "ripping". :)

If you´re on vice pop into the monitor when the program is running and do:
s "font.prg" 0 2000 27ff

Best pratice, nowdays, before rip and use something, is to ask the author for "permission" to use his work and then credit him somewhere in our work.
In the oldies, due to lack of communication and a lot of "lamer attitude" people simple ripped and used someone else work... but now is deprecable...
IMHO.

Plus, you will very likely just receive the font as such from Conrad, and you can avoid the extra ripping work. :-)

Hi,

thanks for the reply guys. I send a message to Conrad about it. I was really trying to understand the mechanism to get the font and use it which seems to be clear now.

Thanks

@pgarcia: if you need a charset from Shine/Delysid (our gfx)
(Also he made a few for the 2013 competition) so there is not a problem and i can send you to the mail . beside that ,if
its old charset from the "back of the day" releases and if you give a decent credit in your intro (or whatever) i don't see a big problem after all you could see sometimes the same music or charset used for over the years without any particular problem. of course always better to contact the autor to get permission in first place :-)

Any music or charset which is officially released can usually be used without special permission. Just give proper credit and everything is well.
