World firsts and effect records

Hello!

From time to time the discussion about where some effect appeared for the first time, and what is the world record of some specific kind of effect (plotters or whatever) pops up here. Jazzcat suggested that the codebase wiki would be a suitable place for such an article, and I agree with him.

I added this as a requested article on the wiki now:

http://wikholm.dyndns.org/~cswiki/doku.php?id=start#articles

Any first steps is appreciated.

Actually there have been internal ideas about adding such a feature to CSDb also, to mark releases "world first"/"records", but it was never caried out.
Could it be an idea to do something like this? Perhaps along with the wiki solution?

I think it would be a good idea to try to add it to CSDb, although it might be a bit tricky. The biggest challenge is probably that there are a lot of different opinions about what counts as a record/world first (how much can you cheat, etc.)

Anyway, we can always use new issues to argue about, right :)

not only the many different opinions about what counts record/firstie but also how to tag the zillion different routines, and also how to mark that at a given time which demo held the record....

"first-release" tags would be interested and would re-open some small debates for sure. Easy to integrate the LIST I compiled of all first releases from 1991 - 2006 (http://www.onslaughters.org)

I'm hoping people can add WORLD RECORD routines and "FIRST" with new effects on the code-wiki. It is an important part of our history as it has inspired further demos and may still inspire.

I agree with @cruzer and that's why I thought that this issue is perhaps best handled in article form (telling the different opinions without being "unambigous", which I guess a database wouldn't handle well).

Anyway, I don't have any strong opinions on this matter.
