Event id #3071 : Transmission64 2021 Fall Edition
Two parties in a year, who would have thunk.
The competitions will be similar to those at the previous Transmission64; we might make some slight adjustments to the rules and will announce those shortly. We're also considering adding one or two competitions.
Consider this our "call for papers" - if you're interested in holding a presentation or have an act, please send an outline of it to hello (at) transmission64.com. |

No Flip disk to continue BASIC fading allowed?
Then I'm out :( |

Quoting GroepazOne diskside for a BASIC fader? srsly? :) The idea is to allow loading, because.
Then restricting it to anything below a disk side doesn't make so much sense.
Consider it as a one-trick pony demo compo, where the ponies are very good at clearing the screen after run. =) |

I also wanted to thank Krill for helping out with designing the basic fader compo and having the idea together with me in chat a while back.
Btw, if you're looking for some inspiration, check out this thread:

Somebody (sorry, forgot who exactly) suggested to try breaking the winner entry in some kind of post-prizegiving after show, setting non-standard screen modes/VIC register settings etc. before run. =D |

Krill: yeah break the winner! \o/
Seriously, might be terminology but to be crystal clear, the fader is supposed to be coded in BASIC V2.0 or why is it called "BASIC"? |
| |
Krill
Registered: Apr 2002 Posts: 2982 |
Can be coded in any language you like, of course, as long as you can run it from the BASIC prompt.
No idea who came up with the terminology and how, or why it's called that, but among the things that are swept away in a creative way when running a demo, you often find "COMMODORE 64 BASIC V2". =) |

That was Strobe on #c-64 on IRCnet a few days ago :)

7:40 PM <Strobe> that compo should be followed by a "break the winners fader" comp :)

I used to call it screen fader or something like that, but I think the name originates from the fact that it transitions from a BASIC screen (i.e. start screen) and fades that screen to get to the demo. Nothing really to do with BASIC, but if you wanted, I guess you could code it in BASIC 2.0, too. |

Just to be clear, please do not upload and post your entries on CSDb ahead of the party, as this will disqualify your entries. We will have a system available for you to upload the entries about 1 week before the party. |

I'm excited to see what folks come up with, but it would've been a lot more interesting if some limitations would've been imposed. Like, 1k / 512 bytes / 256 bytes. I had been pondering setting up such a compo myself, just for the fuck of it, but thanks Transmission64 for doing it! |

Doesn't sound very feasible to impose further restrictions (and then of the technical kind) on something already quite restricted (in what it does), in the first instalment of that sort.
But specialised size-coding events (Lovebyte) exist. :) |

Quoting hedningI heard Burglar and Krill were the guys that are behind the restriction to 35 tracks d64:s. :'( it's all my fault! my d64 library is lacking 35+ track support, but this is only for single files (extracted from d64), not for demos. so the apparent size-check for demos is a bug in votox. I will fix.
and about deadlines, I can only say: Accept No Limits! |

Disk images are cheap, and adding another disk side to a demo is better than squeezing it onto 40-track sides. |

But try finding an excuse for prematurely hard-cutting releases with an ugly reset to cartridge menu, including the final (and ultimately winning) demo in the show... =) |

So many great releases!. Thanks for organizing T64 party.
I have a question though.
I think I saw a screen with the advert of the new Mufflon v2 converter?
It appeared for me only once and then dissapeared. I've never noticed it again.
Any news? Is DeeKay around to comment and maybe unveil the release date?
Is it going to support C128 VDC modes?
Sorry for spamming the thread. I just dont wat to start a new one |

Thank you for the kind words. I guess we should focus more on running slides so you can see all of them several times :D
The best way to catch Deekay for me usually is on Facebook and he did send us this slide actually already in April, but yes, he is around and is waiting for the release of Mufflon v2 as well - I think he's waiting on the coder or so. I'll try to point him here and to your question. |

Yes, Mufflon 2 is due out soon - as usual for all systems! ;-) It has new adjustable color modes (YUV, RGB, HSL), Floyd Steinberg instead of pattern dither, Colodore palette option, multithreaded rendering and a PAL/NTSC NUFLI displayer (unfortunately not for MUIFLI).. Nothing for VDC though, what gave you that idea? 8)
I'm just waiting for A Life in Hell to finish the port to the new Python Framework! ;-) |

@DeeKay
Thanks for reply
and regarding your question....
I refer to Colour Spectrum you released earlier this year and the comment of yours
"@Carrion: We may release the converter/viewer thingy I used for my gfx soonish"
I guess this is not the thing then ;)
and I wait for VDC converter patiently. C128 and it's graphics is certainly a territory I want to explore. |

No, this is definately not "the thing"! ;-)
"The thing" is a command line Java Applet by JA that takes PNGs as inputs that already adhere to the VDC restrictions (so totally different than Mufflon!) and then sends the gfx data over the network to a 1541 Ultimate with Ethernet running a viewer to be displayed on real hardware... |
