SIDs that aren't in HVSC yet: part III

I thought it was time to finally open the third part, as was discussed in part II already several posts before the recent ones IIRC. :)
For some reason, the bigger part of compo entries of Forever III is missing - I will enter the releases one by one at some point (if anyone feels motivated to help with that task, very welcome! CremD? ;-) , but someone can already check out the release disk e.g. here:
I'm Back . Should certainly yield a couple of additions. :-)

Identified by GRG as Blues_Muz/Gallefoss_Glenn/Techno_Rave.sid, it's a different binary but it's that one.

Yesterday I remembered there was a letter-writer of typical 1987 style (slow text build-up, moving cursor) which had the Last Ninja game tunes enhanced with digi drums. These are missing in HVSC. I think the tool was done by The Paco Crew, but I'm too "lazy" to examine them myself.

I know Ninja-Writer but the LN tunes aren't digi-enhanced there. I seem to remember there were also some notes with digi tunes, but I can't recall as of now where I found them.
I remember also one similar noter that used /MUSICIANS/M/MC/Rockmonitor_2.sid

Found two little infos:
http://noname.c64.org/csdb/sid/?id=4924&show=comments
My Favourite/Brandis
The memory text in the crack Fox Fights Back/Shining 8 says that this tune is called "Dancin'Song".

Cosmic Pirate (the game)
says (C) Palace but it's got published via their budget label Byte Back on the 64, unlike 16 bit versions.

We have to use a bit of guesswork else there would be 40000 sids in /DEMOS/UNKNOWN.
It's in amnesia intro, it's made with falco paul/20cc routine, sounds like mac2 could have composed it: let's put it there. But if you know a way to contact mac2 ask him to verify his entries, that would be really helpful.

Just some conclusions:
X-Factor Intro credits a guy called Vortex as musician. But there is no other evidence about a X-Factor member or US guy of that nick in that era (1991) than that. Vortex is more likely the group Vortex who had the musician Deathangel's Shadow doing a tune for them in 1991 and his tunes sound similar to X-Factor Intro

The second tune in this demo is titled Reverb_01.sid, could be re-named to Birkenhead_2.sid, according to the other, Birkenhead_1.sid

It's possible to do, and also set it to 1990.
let's hope Outline wasn't released first.

Quote: Just some conclusions:
X-Factor Intro credits a guy called Vortex as musician. But there is no other evidence about a X-Factor member or US guy of that nick in that era (1991) than that. Vortex is more likely the group Vortex who had the musician Deathangel's Shadow doing a tune for them in 1991 and his tunes sound similar to X-Factor Intro

but they say "vortex of x-factor for the music" in the scroller.
Would be nice to know if it was deathy, was he active in 1990? or is the crack Celluloid/XF dated wrong? dunno, it's like throwing dices..

@Coog: you are right about that X-Factor Intro, they are advertising Warez Domain BBS in that crack, which they also do in Back of the Future II of the same time, September/October 1990 . I'll add a Vortex single scener meanwhile. Warez Domain = The Viking's Citadel btw.

Then again Vortex could also have been US sub-group department of X-F, kinda like Exodus/NATO. I listened a bit more to that intro tune, not so much of DA's style like I thought in first place. Sounds more advanced than his later (annoying) Armageddon intro tunes.

Fire Eyes by Roy Batty (good composer) is from 1994's mini-demo Contact/Sinister, .sid file says 1997.

when he composed them it's irrelevant, release year counts.
Sad String <- 1996
the other 2 are already set to 1994 being found in productions from that year.

Right, they share even same data and rebels intro has a 2nd subtune too. Interestingly Labyrinx plays correctly, while Rebels_Intro.sid #1 has a wrong byte ($6f instead of $62) that causes bad notes at 1:43-1:47. Fixed, Labyrinx will be deleted and the corrected Rebels_Intro.sid will be renamed Labyrinx.sid, taking its place.

After some extensive research on Beatless & Orion CBS i can now definatively state:
Drac = Colonel Beat

He used a total of five handles so far i know:

The Hulk (his earlest one i think, though not sure)
The Disk Man
SPC (not the same as atg spc and not swiss usa team spc)
Drac
Gorbatsjow Crew
Colonel Beat
and later Savant.

The first for are not part of csdb, because i belive they were used in the local lamer groups. But i think Drac and colonel beat folders in hvsc should be merged.

Oh yeah, CCT (where his music are found) was a subgroup of The Highest Level which they (Colonel beat, Swoplord & Captain Rock) had something to do with aswell.. more research will be done, but of this I am sure.

I merged their handles together.

Egypt#3 intro tune seems new, the 2 mag tunes were already ripped from Egypt#4 and will be named Egypt_3_tune*

JB tune is a newer edit of Lost_in_Space.sid, longer and with different drums. Also it's a single tune and not split in 2 like the older one. Added as Lost_in_Space_v2.sid

Hyper Cars was sold starting in 1995 by Threshold Productions and released as freeware by Arkanix Labs in 1997.

The tune you're looking for iAN was composed by Mr. Bungle and most likely from his unreleased disks. I'll check in the morning and post back with the name of the tune.

Just checked, the tune is named "Escape" by Mr. Bungle.

You're sure that you sold Hyper Cars to the public already in 1995? 'Cause there are no cracks of that game from that time and as we all know crackers loved nothing more than a first release.

Yep, we also sold Lazer Duel during the same period and no crack until two or three years later - both games weren't cracked until I supplied the originals myself first to SCS*TRC and then my own group.

Thanks for the title for Escape.sid, added. Could be that also intro tune to Lazer Duel/AL is by mr bungle aswell? "Voicetracker 2+" is used there too. Dokken and Warnock, for example, never used that specific version.
I think the entry of Hyper Cars/AL should be set to 1997 because it IS the 1997 release, dox and intro has (C) 1995, 1997 in them. The F4CG preview release is the only one actually made in 1995 and already uses those tunes.
Anyway these are the changes applicable:

# Loader tune is credited to Jeff Blume. Fixed typo in "Threshold".
# 1995 is ok as release date as the tunes were already used in the 1995 preview,
# even if this onefile includes also 2 tunes from the 1997 freeware rerelease.

Ego tripp: there is no trace of Crossley_Neil\Space_Gun.sid in this demo, while Hitouse tune wasn't listed, fixed credits and sidlist.

Bugbomber/Vision & BlackHornet/Vision (vsn-01.prg) intro tune is
/MUSICIANS/Z/Zeus/Worktunes/Jam_2.sid
Scroller in Bugbomber says: "this nice music was done by our latest two members !zeus and shogun!".
I *assume* from the scroll text it's actually a coop tune.
The tune was sent to HVSC from Zeus directly, he thought it was unused probably.
Being actually used, can be creditfixed and moved.

Do you have some comprehension problem? sid is in Zeus\ HVSC dir and was sent by him to HVSC, in the crack the sid has that text where Shogun claim having did it and then the scroll text says it's done by BOTH. I take for good the information is made by BOTH because there is no other option until BOTH will reveal what's the truth. If you're not agreeing with this I can't do much about it and frankly I don't even care so much.

If you mean the digis played as a pseudo tune in the title screen, where you can press keys and "compose" it, I don't think it's worthy to implement it in the current sid. The digis are all there btw.

As long as you don't want a real complete SID collection including one of the most extraordinary mainthemes with nice digis and drums it's ok. I like it and just pointed out it's missing. That's all.

Both tunes are ripped, so one can choose which to play. Demo tunes are not onefiled, unless they need to be played one after each other, check for example
/MUSICIANS/S/Stainless_Steel/Krawall_Deluxe.sid
/MUSICIANS/F/Fanta/Desert_Dream.sid
/MUSICIANS/W/Wacek/My_Kingdom_Inside_2_mix.sid
/MUSICIANS/M/Mitch_and_Dane/Dane/Andropolis.sid
/MUSICIANS/M/Mitch_and_Dane/Dane/Mekanix.sid
/MUSICIANS/M/Mitch_and_Dane/Dane/Edge_of_Disgrace.sid
Your Madtrax_tune_1/2 are independent tunes, hence they're ok like this, nothing has to be "fixed".

Mad Trax was released as one compotune. Since it is the first time this has been done in a SID-compo (afaik), I think it's relevant that HVSC archives it correctly. If it's not relevant for you today, future researchers will probably appreciate the effort.

Or is the problem that it is technically difficult to do it?

(edit: the whole point with this form of release, is that the user is not able to choose which song that gets played)

Don't seem to be in HVSC, so they've been take care of. Simple Future-composer stuff, though.

there are a lot of noisypillars and scout "remixes" that have been refused in the past (I keep them unreleased as reference), because they were simply pattern edits of the original tunes, just load them in FC, change some bytes and voila' your remix is ready. Really many did this, and i'm sick of finding them =)

/MUSICIANS/M/MC/Rockmonitor_2.sid with altered $c010/c011 pointers so plays just fewer patterns. rest of the data are identical.

As the SID model information on Allister Brimble's tunes is still missing, if you compare them it's pretty safe to say he did them on a 8580.

e.g.

I don't know, you took a 6581R4 which has deeper filters, if you take the r2 there isn't much difference anyway with the 8580 version, doesn't make a proof these are _all_ for 8580. I need more than this to be sure, in doubt remain set to unknown.

I never listen to those R2 tunes, thought they are very similar to R4, seems I'm mistaken.

Anyway, in Asterix and the Magic Cauldron the title track (tune 4) still starts incorrectly, in the game it starts with the fast part, while in the SID rip it's the slow one.

It does actually start at the correct point in the sid. The game only initializes the tune when you die in the game, so it starts wrong when it's played for the first time. Magnate fixed it about 10 years ago, and the fix was to set one byte correctly, which both fixed the wrong starting point and allowed PSID64 to restart the tune :-)

According to Destino/Origo in Destinote (http://csdb.dk/release/download.php?id=150361), who seemed to be friends with Harmony Productions, the name of Satan's Birth is 'Satan's Birth'.

Just watched this nice video..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKL9FkLTxBc

Had a look among Tim Kleinert's tracks, but couldn't find this, or these, from what little I could hear of the snippet playing before the nice end-song.

Bottom is in current update.
The lft tune converted by MrSid has been refused aswell as NESsivE ATtaCK tunes due to the fact they're "conversions".
In other words, there is just some C64 code that plays the original (other platform) tunes. I know, too bad.

Alright... and yet this: Rambo Loader - The Boring Remix is ok? That's just some C64 code that plays the original (same platform) tune :)

How about this? Return of the Jedi

Inge's remix is totally valid as it's a c64 remix of a c64 tune.
Return of the jedi (2 tunes and onefiled) is already in the update.
edit: looks like Phasor Soundtrack HiFi will be finally added due to common agreement =)
