"ignore" certain groups?
Is it possible to not only chose to display "demos only" but also introduce some selection of groups to be ignored?
I feel a general tendency to do so among several sceners.
However discussable this point of view is, it would for the moment maybe help to avoid some bashing and CSDb users could "generate" an exclusive understanding of "their" scene.
I think some ignore-groups-list would suffice - however I assume this is way more complex on the server-side than ignore single user-posts?
Maybe people have an opinion on this feature?

Or better yet, add a Retarded section and place all crap from Crypt, Secretman and the other likewise persons who dont nor did belong to the scene. And make it happen ASAP! |

Please can you explain what a retarded release is? Is it a release that targets another person or a flood load of bad quality releases? |

Ok, I see what you are talking about :)
If this is really bothering the people on CSDB, why not add some more rules about that kind of behaviour or put a block on the upload release option for the people responsible abusing the CSDB with what you call retarded crap?
Perhaps yellow card systems should be introduced, where 2 yellow cards = a red card and those who get a red card gets kicked off CSDB for a month or so, and 3 red cards = a permanent ban.

You cannot really block "unwanted" releases without being quite offensive and/or discriminating. Rules would need rational reasons which are not so easy to come by without becoming ridiculously complicated (if it's possible at all). That's why it's better to leave up to each individual to filter. And btw. IMO we've had enough rule-bashing by now (remember Baracuda) |

Okay. I'll stop my questions and suggestions about this topic right here and I'll leave this topic to the rest of the people :) |

The definition of retarded release is a matter of personal opinion. There have been plenty of releases from lamer label groups such as Bad Taste and Looney Tunes Importers. Such releases were done alot in the 90s when one group wanted to rag on another group through their lame label. Nowadays there is no purpose for lamer groups since there no longer are group wars. Some people like to play games that others would consider lame. A yellow and red card system would add too much burden to the maintainers of the CSDb. |

Retarded group != Lamer group/label.

It's pretty easy to sort out what's retarded and what is not.
Releases from onslaught, hokuto force, nostalgia, remember, the remembers, trazan, scout, groepaz, twoflower, taper, hitmen is TEH shit.
These guys were around back in the early days of the scene and should be the ones who makes the rules.
Everyone else = RETARDED and should be banned.

you want beer but there is none... so you buy the more expensive stuff, like a bottle of fine scotch...
do the same here!
you want to ignore groups but that is no option... so you take the other one: ignore urls :D
just stay away...

I think the idea of banning people because of what they release is pretty lame. Sure there are MANY recently trained games that should have stayed where they were found, but obviously, someone felt they should be released, yet again.
It does sicken me to see these lame releases, but again, at least someone's trying to keep it going, regardless of the low quality crap that I've been seeing here lately.
The answer is simple really. Don't look at it :)
I do, however, like the idea of being able to look at a specific genre, like DEMOS, instead of everything that particular group may have done.
To implement something such as Enthusi suggested, each user would require a "file" that would depict what they want to see. At the end of each and every group in CSDb's database, a check box saying "Ignore this group" would be checked by the user. I see it in my mind, but to put it in code is blocked by major amounts of vodka & Khaos :) |

*anyone* who was ever banned on csdb (which are only like 10 people, a LOT less than you'd expect on a forum with this many users) was banned because of silly behaviour, not listening to the mods, getting warned, more silly behaviour, threatening moderators, etc. (repeat)
noone will get banned because of lame releases ever (if anything, the releases might get deleted)
and yeah, maybe one of the mentioned persons got banned in the heat that another of the mentioned persons caused (who deserved the ban no doubt, and who has no chance to come back ever because of his threats). those persons may thank their "kind" group mate for getting sucked into it, and might come back some time in the future.

That's pretty amazing to read.. It takes a lot to get banned on this site.
No worries with me though.. My warring days are long gone, although, I've been yearning to start something with a particular group that can't be mentioned. If I did, i might could be banned, and that would never do. CSDb is one of my favorite places to visit, upload, check out new stuff (regardless how old it is) and see what the scene is up to. hell, i can even help somebody out if I knew WTF they were talking about, hehe.
I do, however, think we've went off topic though. |

[trivia]not really- you can also get banned for something you werent contacted about and 2 months after that had happened. my account was closed for christmas and when i asked for a reason i was referred to my contributions from october LOL. but that was a while ago,i trust the moderators have worked up their reaction time a little.[/trivia] |

assiduous: yeah well. moderators aren't perfect, etc :) the big difference between you and some other guys that were banned is that you are actually able to deal with a conversation beyond "OMG UNBAN ME OR I DELETE CSDB" or "MEEEH UNBAN ME OR I WILL KILL YOU!!!!!!" :) |

It was his first release if i remeber right. And whats false on it to join then a group to learn to make it better? Are you all here born with all infos about cracking, coding etc? I dont think so... Everybody (!) has to learn about it. And to bann a beginner... Thats not a good way i think... |

everybody has to learn, yes. and we all started as lamers. and most importantly: we all had to improve our skills to get anywhere. and scene sites/boards/forums/whateveryoucallit not accepting all and every bullshit has always been an important factor to establish a certain level of quality in the scene.
however in this case, what danzig said. if you happen to pop up and release something totally crap and then join a group which is right in the middle of some controversial "fight" and then get banned - for whatever reason - oh well. bad luck. he'll survive it. it's not like anyone would be stopping him from doing stuff, and eventually do something decent next time. |

I've been disgracing internet C64 community for 8 years.. thas a bit too long for being still considered self-appointed.
And as far as the current situation is concerned, there are some "manifestations" happening "behind the scenes" that never get into public that are justifying our decisions. |

Can you believe this? I'm getting slack from the Grand Kook Fart Himself, claiming I mentioned CRYPT. My posting should be listed above.
I'd like to apologize in advance for what's about to happen if this jackass doesn't back off.
Hear that Mike-o? LET IT GO..
The last thing you need is a Bi-Polar coder on you.
Simply Incredible this character is. Paranoid without a doubt.
From the what, 2 or 3 postings I posted, He claims CRYPT is the group I'm talking about. I have nothing against Crypt, well, not true. The reason I quit the group was because I didn't want to be part of a cracking group, I joined as an artist and somehow got listed as a coder, then pummeled with coding questions by all the members and I quit, period. No hate towards anyone or anything they do.
I wonder what my 100th post here will be.. Something silly, I'm sure. |

Groepaz: I didn't think something like this would happen, not at all. All over a silly viewpoint. I guess jealousy does that (hahaha). I know one thing for sure, King Kook Fart probably won't let it go, so I'm already starting on some code.
And to think, I suggested I wanted to war with someone, but wasn't really serious about it. This could be major fun, well, at least for me :D
I must admit, if this is what you moderators go through on a daily basis, you know, dealing with idiocy & stupidity, you guys have a lot more tolerance than i do.
Sadly enough, Wanderer used to be someone I looked up to, and even started talking to him. Now I think he's nothing but a loser trying to reclaim a fame he really never had. If he thought Stormbringer was a pain in his butt....
I'll try not to bring any of it here though, as I have respect for everyone here.
