The "Public votes only" function should be implemented in the statistics page, too I think.

Good job with the implementation of the public votes.
However I agree with what Linus said.

It seems to me like there is very little difference between the result of public and total votes. Interesting.

Maybe some got it wrong and voted for the GROUPS not the logos they liked best :)

actually the logo compo is a prime example of how it doesnt make a difference in most cases. for almost every entry the difference is no more than +/-0.5.

and yes *sometimes* it makes a difference. consider the fact that *sometimes* the considerably huge difference between collected anonymous and public votes plays *some* role too.

really. stop. whining. learn. math.

I think it's awesome Perff took the time to implement this.

Too bad (or logically) it doesn't really make a difference in vote results. Anonymous and Public voters are equally clueless/cluefull ;)

Or maybe, the anon upvoters get cancelled out by the anon downvoters and vice versa.

And maybe, the public upvoters get cancelled out by the pubic downvoters too!

Anyways, the comments is where your peer-reviews are, not the votes.

if you are stupid enough to determine compo results from csdb voting, then yes. even then i doubt it has a greater impact than the fact that by far not everyone votes for each entry and only picks a few favourites.

I think the anonymous votes will disappear from this site in the future, when the riots can't be controlled anymore. Allāhu Akbar.

that will definately not happen unless enough public votes have been collected to even show a result for as many entries at it can be done at the moment. dont count on it before 2040 =)

when you are 44 years old, votes dont really matter anymore.
it gives a better feeling to see the nr of downloads, so you know your stuff is seen.

you cant change peoples taste, if they dont like classical music they will vote 5 on a mozart masterpiece no matter..

anyway, this site is so cumbersome and old to use.
i will preserve the general look/feel, but csdb 2.0 will happen, when i get wordpress to stop some bs errors :)

honestly dont think perff has any time to really do the haul here that is needed, so someone just gonna do it someday, and it will be a good thing for me to do.

i cant say any date, but want to create a website again and if anything, csdb will be it. nobody visits personal websites anymore. we are all slaves to the evil corporations, youtube, soundcloud, facebook and you know it :)

Thumbs up for the "public votes" add-on! :-)

Although the weighted averages don't really make sense anymore when you have an even smaller number of votes in the calculation. I know it's an old topic, but it seems to me that the main difference in the results ("all votes" compared to "public votes only") seem to be a mere consequence of too little votes for the weighted average system to work properly.

...avoiding the negative psychological effect of "backstabbing" with downvotes, not the representation of the actual score without them. Downvotes don't add to it anyway. I don't think that this "fix" actually solves too much.

Why is this so fucking hard to understand?

Btw. I don't understand why is my account still active, as if I remember correctly, I asked for its deletion a few weeks ago.

don't login for 6 months (or sth like that) and your account will be deleted automagically anyways.

on topic: yep, good solution. doesn't make any real difference to me, but if the people who were against anonymous voting are happier now then i'm happy too.

I dunno dude, it's like the worst fucking drug. You know it's bad and it will fuck up your head, but you are just coming back for more.
I need an intervention.

Seriously, I don't want the "Jailbird" nick to be associated with anything on this site, but especially the forum.
If I'd have the power, I'd remove myself from all the product credits as well.

Hello moderators??? Do your fucking job and remove my account from this site.

you can change your account name to sth random, and un-link your account from your nick in your personal settings.
i still find it a pity that you are so extremely grumpy about csdb; it has a few nice sides as well, and there are a few nice people around too.

That's it. I don't want not to log in, but to totally exclude myself, my name and preferably even my individual works from this shit. Is there an option for that??? If you don't remove my account from CSDb immediately, I'll start deleting my releases one by one. Your call.

The scene should be so fun and cool to be in, this is just no fun at all. Cant you just delete the account for him if he wants that? I do not know, it is getting into so many negative things on here so often, I am actually getting bad vibes too... I think I will make a pc demo now instead.

You constantly tend to forget how fucking wrong you are, Groepaz. Or leave out the forum, the voting or the comments then.

Unfortunately, today's C64 scene centers around this site, and we can't just avoid it.

Interestingly, when the majority asks for changes which would benefit those who regularly release new products, it seems that only a few selected decides if it is a good choice or not.

We are forced to follow the opinions and choices of people who are not competent in making general social decisions on their own, let alone a judgement for the advancement of a community as a whole.

Why is it so hard to accept that some people don't want to be a part of this at all?

Thing is, I loved to use it, and I'd love to use it. I was an active contributor for years, I uploaded stuff, I voted, I commented, I suggested gazzilions of changes which were implemented, and improved the usability on the site.

And once again - if you want to be a part of the C64 scene, then you simply can't avoid it.

But lately, it's only a source of frustration for quite some people here. Yes, actually CSDb is my only excuse why I'm not active: I don't want my stuff to end up here. The general atmoshpere on this site is totally demotivating. Believe it or not, heard the same thing from some other people as well.

There's actually a difference in the ranking between public and private votes on 2nd and 3rd place in the 3 color compo right now, so clearly it matters. :P

Gotta love how you constantly try to avoid subjects which you can't address reasonably by trying to ridicule the one who brought them up. Way to go, man. Ignorance is bliss.

Inside we care about the c64 and the scene in ways our minds can not control, CSDB is for me a big part of the c64 scene, without CSDB I would never have known there were this scene still active again. If we had not gone on here and seen these demos with comments and votes and a populated place on the net in 2009 we would maybe never have done a c64 demo again I guess.

and the cause clearly isnt that public rating is calculated from much less votes, indeed =)

from about 30 years of experience in the scene i learned: those who whine about the scene or the places where the scene gathers not being the same anymore as it was, and it turned into an unfriendly piece of dung they dont want to be associated with anymore simply lost interest and are struggling for an excuse to be inactive.

and the one who is (quite successfully) trying to ridicule the one who brought this up is the one who keeps repeating how he is unable to stop using that fucking website he doesnt want to use.

and since it is unlikely there'll come more out of this besides more whining -> closed.
