Why do old groups pop up in credits?
Hiya,
I am just wondering why old groups pop up in places where they do not belong.
For example:
Xiom +5P
Crack: Bordeaux of Acrise, Active, Disorder, Endless Piracy
I can understand Acrise (since i'm still in the active member status, allthough the group is desolved, so that's an error on the Acrise group maintenance by Mendrake obviously)
But why Disorder and Endless Piracy on a crack I did for Active? |

You were a member of both of these groups in 1997, and the game was released in 1997 as well, thus the system deducts that you actually might have been a member of these groups when this game was released. Comprende?
Oh leave me alone, I just woke up :Z
Nb: if the release date of the game was set to, for example, April 1997, Endless Piracy would not be shown but Disorder still would. |

Well, you were a member of these groups during the release of the product, right? And your membership(s) don't relate to the actual crack in any way - only to yourself. As I see, the product is clearly labeled and released by Active. Seems fairly logical to me :D |

Maybe there should be a feature where you can add which exact group you were in during that release, via the credits section. Example, when I finished the tune Combine Escape, I released it under Samar Productions because it was for a Polish demoparty and that most Samar dudes attended. But in the credits section, Onslaught is also shown because I was obviously a member of them before the release. Not saying that Onslaught should not be involved with my productivity ;) but at least make it clearer on the release like Bordeaux mentioned.
EDIT:
Another example is Laxity... he's at the moment a member of MON and Vibrants, but his recent releases still credit him as a member of Starion and Wizax! WTF? |

if you want that kind of info to be displayed correctly, you must edit your group membership(s) accordingly :)
note that this still means that if you were in several groups at a time, they will all be shown behind the handle in credits. the "released by" tag of every entry should be used to tell what actual group is associated with that release. |

That's because it isn't specified when he left Starion or Wizax. See Laxity- The database can't know if he left the groups in 1990 or yesterday so all releases after 10/88 will have Laxity credited as Laxity/Starion. |

Hmm yes, it does seem to tie everything down to just a year and thats it.
This is highly annoying though to be honest because I most certainly not (!) in more then one group at the time
Groepaz, actually I think the group membership is set correctly actually, so its not that.
Disorder (1-97 -> 9-97), Endless Piracy (27/12-96 -> 1-97)
Although I did notice I had not set the starting month for Active (9/97) yet, so changed that, but doesnt make a difference since the crack is just dated 1997.

Ofcourse the crack must be correctly dated as well. Just 1997 isn't good enough in this case. |

just to say it again... there is no such "tag" as conrad suggested because it would be redundant information in the database (rule #1: never store redundant information!). second such a tag would discourage people from entering/correcting the actual dates.
so yes, while such a tag might be useful in a short term to improve the presentation layer, the current way is better on the long run. |

I've been wondering about all that really - especially as I'm listed as an EX member of both Starion and Wizax (although no particular end-of-membership-date is set), one could argue that there's a flaw in the deduction :).. I guess I could set on, but if I did it'd be incorrect (which is why I'm not doing it) because I can't rememeber what of if I officially left... at least Starion.
EDIT: With a little deduction, I could fix it myself :).. Starion end date is an estimate, but I guess that's not really important.. or? |

I wouldn't see estimation as a felony in some cases. :) |

if you aren't sure, it'd be nice if you say so in the trivia or comments or whatever else :) maybe someone else can fix it later....or something =) |
