Tools for (or easy ways of) ripping sids from PRG, D64 etc.
So, on the soon-to-be-released Loop Compo (2020 Short Music and SFX Loop Competition) votesheet, I would like to add a link to the sid in DeepSID's "SID Happens" folder for easy re-listening of the compo entries. However, some loops don't have the .sid file attached, so for those, I would need to rip the sid and upload it to DeepSID.
Any suggestions what would be the easiest way to do this? I found Ian's Unp64 (for unpacking a packed prg) and prg2sid (for attaching the PSID header to a ripped tune), but are there any tools for between, i.e. the actual ripping of the tune? I could always do this manually, but it's a bit labour intensive (especially considering my lacking skillz), so the more tools (and preferably automated toolchains) there would be for this task, the better. :)
I'm guessing ripping from D64 would be just an additional preparation step to pull out the PRG from it and then continue as above. Again, if there is a tool to extract PRGs from D64s automatically, it would be grand. I'm sure there are, but I haven't done much of this stuff, so it's all new to me. I can always do it using my Ultimate, but it'll be a bit slow (and a tool would be nicer for future use too). |

How about sending a PM to those lazy ass composers and ask for the the muze in .prg format? Might be less work than ripping by hand which, judging by the amount of replies, seems inevitable. |

small script that does:
- use c1541 to extract prg from disk
- unp64 to unpack the prg
- one of the many .sid tools to make a tune with 1000 init and 1003 play from it
that probably covers most, if not all, entries :) |

Or just wait a couple more weeks as all the sids are in the HVSC update already. |

Thanks for your help chaps! Flotsam's social hacking approach didn't even occur to the stupid me. :) I've now contacted the authors to get the .sids, or just raw tunes without executable. In the meanwhile (and preparing for the scenario where all .sids or raw tunes are not available), I'll still give SID ripping a go, just for the sake of it, and as a learning process.
Had a chat with Ian, unfortunately not all loops will be in HVSC, so waiting for the next HVSC release isn't an easy-way-out option. I also wouldn't want to push voting until just before xmas, as people will be then busy with their xmas preparations. |

Thanks iAN, I have now added the remaining SID files in DeepSID.
All competition entries should now be present there. |
