Great new synthpop band / c64 cool sounds !!

Hi All,

Just wanted to share with you all that a new synthpop band has emerged from my home town in England, which is exciting, as it might put my boring town on the map, lol !!

Their stuff is really cool, I think, as it mixes retro synth sounds, including some nice c64 sounding instruments, with contemporary electropop. It's a male vocalist too, which gives it a nice 80's retro feel (none of this diva junk !!).

Their influences include Alphaville, Depeche Mode, Human League & Kraftwerk to name a few.

The band is called POPULATOR and they have a debut CD out called POP. Their home website is :-

www.populator.co.uk

You can listen to snippets of their stuff and two full songs that were played on BBC radio here in England.

Check it out for yourself - you may be pleasantly surprised ;-)

Cheers,

Ludwig

Sorry, I fail to hear any c64 sounds in that. :-)
Also most of it sounds more or less the same.

Yeah ok, a bit of a promotion on my behalf there :-0

One of the band members is a friend of mine. I used to swap stuff with him years ago, as he was in a c64 demo group back in the day. I bought one of their CDs and really think it sounds great.

As for the comment that most of it sounds more or less the same is nonsense, as I think each track sounds individual. I love the meaty bass sounds and cool melodies !!

But hey, everyone has their own opinion ;-)

Hi All,

Just had some news from my friend in POPULATOR.

Their music is now available for download here in the UK on iTunes, Amazon & Emusic.

Also, they have just had this great review in a highly respected national magazine :-

MUSICIAN: THE JOURNAL OF THE MUSICIANS' UNION (Spring 2010)

Album Reviews by Keith Ames

POPULATOR - POP

A classic serving of mouthwatering pop

"This is a slice of superlative retro synth pop from Durham trio Populator, who have released eight tracks of layered keys and crafted beats. Hook-laden, skilled and highly enjoyable, first cut Paradise pulls a clever trick of triggering 1980s deja vu yet maintaining an aura of cool modernity. This is followed by the relationship-orientated tale of What You Wanted and the group - Richard Moon, Luigi Amicucci and Marco Amicucci - maintain a stratospheric standard of glossy and danceable songs right through to the chilled-out climax, The Night Is Young, with its dreamy, vocal riff: 'The night is young, The heart is strong, Let the beat go on and on.' Exceptional."

Enjoy ;-)
