well it has been released in 1998, though not commercially distributed or 'released' in the scene :)

Ok, for non germans: ..Eines Tages werd ich das wohl mal veredeln. Mit Scrolling und etwas besserer Grafik oder so.. quickly translates into ..One of these days I will fix it to have scrolling, a bit better graphics etc..
So, the author himself says its not a finished version aka a preview.
But feel free to do it.. it's a nice challenge for a bored multilevel cracker to make something nice out of it. I just though i'd point out why it's not interesting to do from my point of view (besides I suck when it comes to using/implementing loaders.. but that's beside the point.. totally.. hehe) |

nah, the game is ready, was meant to be published
'veredeln' means enhance, so a 2nd version or so
just because you know stuff you could do someday, doesnt mean it's a preview
at least from my point of view :-) |

Well, hello at first. I'm a new guy in this forum. And I'm from Germany (so English is not my native language). So, please apologize my bad English.
I have found this forum "by accident". Sometimes I use Google to find out, which "rank" my website "Imperial Games" is listed there. That way I found the term "New C64 game by Imperial Games Ltd." (1993 I used that funny "Ltd." for my private software label, to make it sound like a company... - well, I was young and stupid. Nowadays I'm no more that young - but maybe still some stupid...)
So, I was looking for that C64 game - and saw: It is MY game "Rockus", I'v written in 1992/93!
Why I'm posting here is that I am the one who have written that C64 game "Rockus - the game". And yes - it is mostly written in BASIC and only some very little parts are written in assembly. That's for this time I've just started learning coding assembly. So I was'n able to do that funny things like raster line IRQ, and so no sprite multiplexing or scrolling was possible. The movings of the "enemies" are very simple, too. The sounds I made myself, but the sound editor and sound-playing routines were made (freeware) by Stefan Konrath - some other guy (and a "64'er" magazine reader, like me).
The game is meant to be "ready" as it is.
The term "irgendwann werde ich das vielleicht mal veredeln, mit Scrolling und besserer Grafik" - is in English: "Sometimes maybe I will improve/extend that game - with scrolling and better graphics." That means (for me), that I MAYBE will make a second (new) game with some of that level designs - but with new graphics and with horizontal scrolling. But "sometimes" and "maybe" means: If and when I ever got the time and the interest to do this.
Mainly I'm now coding on (x86) PCs. (And yes, in MS-DOS. The games/tools I'm coding run in the most versions of MS-Windows, too (except for Vista) - and in some DOS emulators as for example DOSbox.)
But time goes by - and so I'm no more that lame as in 1993. (But lame enough to be a geek and freak and otaku, I know...) I've even coded a C64 emulator on PC (in DOS) some years ago - and so I'm into the deep internals of C64 technics and assembly... That's why I would be able to code a real/decent game on C64, in 100% assembly, now - but nowadays I'm that much into PC x86 coding (and coding some other CPUs for some other guys for their projects).
If you are interested in some actual (PC) games by me - look for the "MS-DOS"/"Games" section of my site. And look into the "Preview" section, too - there you will find XPYDERZ - an 8-way scrolling arcade shooter by me. (And XPYDERZ is bilingual - English and German.)
Note: I've planned doing a vertical scrolling shoot-em-up (spaceship shooter - like R-Type) on the PC. And MAYBE it will be converted onto C64 by me - if I've got the time and if I manage to do it right.
Sorry for writing that many text. Anyone still reading?
Hello!!! I know, you are there! - I can hear your snoring... (jk)
I hope for some response by the forum members in here.
So, bye for now.
