A quick clarification request for the 4k intro compo rules:
"Your entry must start at $0801 with a basic start and may not exceed $17ff"
Does this mean that the intro must not use ANY other mem area than 0801-17ff at any point, or is decrunching allowed after load? How about ZP usage? Cheers! |

That should mean the prg should be loading to $0801 to 17ff included, then running it, it can unpack and use whole memory if you want.
It means the useful byte count is only 4094 bytes and not 4096, the end byte after loading should be in theory $1801, because first 2 byte on the prg is just the loading address and should not count.
In these rules they took the load address as counting in the filesize. |

I thought using other areas than 0801-17ff could be allowed. I just wanted to verify that with the orgas as there have been some intro compos in the recent past where the intro is not allowed to spill to the mem areas outside the load area. |

It's simply about filesize, which can not exceed 4k including load address. Ie the bog standard rule most parties have been using in 4k compos since forever :) |

Quoting Frostbytethere have been some intro compos in the recent past where the intro is not allowed to spill to the mem areas outside the load area. Those intro compos are the oddballs, actually. Size on disk as the only relevant restriction has been the norm for decades. =) |

filesize must be max 4096 bytes (including $0801 load address and basic start). you may use all RAM available during execution.
edit: also, I will clarify this with a compo rule update |

Thanks for verifying Burglar! Limiting mem usage at runtime is an oddball rule indeed, happy to see X is following the standard. :)
(especially as my potential idea for a 4k intro certainly won't fit into 4k after decompression) |
