Can I pay for all the offence members right away, a pre pay thing to ensure us getting places here?

We just need to go here... we want to even give out a small demo. We have been away from the scene in so many years now and we can not miss a real c64 party when we finally are doing something again on the machine, that would be a major downsetter for us!

I heard from GT that LCP were all sold out in 30 minutes. So it is also here maybe? We just want to go to a real c64 party again and release something and talk with all the dudes again. Plese let us have tickets, reserve some for us, about 5 at least.

How big is x party? is it like 500 people and alot of tickets or only very limited?

I think it's been like 150-200 people the last few times.
The only problem last time when too many people signed up, was that the arrangers couldn't guarantee beds for all. But as far as I remember there were still some spare beds... Not everybody who signs up manage to show up, afterall :-)

We had two good reasons for changing the location of the party.

1. Noise problem
2. We needed more beds

Both of them are solved.

May I propose a voting system?
Simplify things. My idea:
buy 1000 table tennis balls (or just something 'unique').
Hand one per category to each who paid entrance fee.
Voting = buckets or something.
Either one bucket/bag per entry or everyone writes a number on his ball (nice sentence) and throws it in the category-bucket.

Only one vote per category per scener.
I like the ball idea but thinking again, some piece of paper + pens should suffice.

This will make it SO simple, I'd hope more people would vote then.
Worst case: some guys pick steal balls from others (that didnt have the balls to look after their balls) and hence double-vote. Well, they made quite some effort for that then and the entry might deserve an illegal double-vote for that :)

Anyone with me here?

To sum up, I (personal opinion) favor:
- no electronic voting
- no big lists with lots of numbers
- NOT one vote per entry, but rather one vote (or two) per category (in words: "I like THAT pic the most" not "I liked pix number 27 the 13th most")

- simple, 'mechanical' counting of votes

Cheers,
enthusi

Yes! Let's all count thousands of pingpong balls in the middle of the night when you're drunk as hell \o/

Should make some funny pictures ;)

@Jan, the actual show/listen rules for the compo's are still subject to change. The announcing last year was, uhm, crap.

@Mace: Then again.. Should it be taken for granted that a list where every entry is assigned a position is needed? I have the feeling that party votes are generally somewhat random when it comes to lower ranked entries anyway. I mean.. the ping pong ball idea may be a little limited, but there may certainly be nicer ways of doing the voting than some complicated procedure. It is always kinda crappy when it takes a lot of time to count votes, whatever system is used, in the middle of the night after the compo when everyone is tired.

Everyone gets 10 pennies to distribute freely among all entries (cups). Weight the cups in the end.
Just something like that :)

Frantic, you're absolutely right, and I hate long votinglists too.
But the idea Enthusi had, won't work either for the reason I mentioned. And that's all I wanted to point out.

The idea with the pennies sounds good, though!
Although I suspect there will be people who'll bet all their pennies on one horse ;-)

Oh, and make sure people won't be able to grab pennies from one bucket to put them in another...

We will most probably rent a bus as always (8 seats). Currently it's me, Oxidy, Puterman, Pernod. Normally Hollowman also joins in, and usually we pick up Krill in Hamburg. Can't see why this year would be any different. :)

So, there's room for one or two more I guess.

The bus travels from Lund/Malmö.

Some of us from Offence and Prosonix will be traveling from Oslo. I have no idea how we'll get there though. I see RyanAir have flights from Rygge to Eindhoven. Perhaps that's a good option.

It can be a killer compo..

037 - Demo
024 - Graphics
030 - Music
142 - Nothing

there is less demos than 37 because people are in groups
but 24 gfx and 30 tunes... my god... that will be 1.5 hour music compo. jesus!!!! :D

with all respect to musicians,
but I find long sid compos extremely boring.
But that might just be me.
Maybe you can think of some way to deal with that?
Start SID-compo very early ahead of gfx/demos?
Or no remote tune-entries?
Or pre-selection?
Or 1 tune per group?
Or people have to pay me for presenting a tune?

Don't accept entries that are only remotely music either.

And I think 15 to 17 tunes is the max, because this will mean a compo of one hour.
After that, our ears start to bleed!

there should at least be a break of 20 or 30 minutes in the middle of the competition. at x'2008 the sidcompo was a bit too long, and the tunes presented at the end had a big disadvantage because everyones ears were bleeding already.

and the sid-compo should start early i think. otherwise it will lead to the democompo taking place too late at night which means some ppl are falling asleep ;-)

just my 2 cents

I suggest a "Applause-O-Meter".

And for those who think the sid compo is too long. That's an easy fix.
Limit the tunes to 2 minutes, or less. But watch out, don't make it too short. Otherwise we'll have a lot of compo-jingles and no compo-tunes. JUST KIDDING!!!

PS: Dont make the compos too late. I religiously get myself stronken and tend to pass out before the democompo every time. It's just too fucking late!

The statistics are nice, but let's not forget that they're not facts; some people might not show up, or not bring a tune/demo/pic after all.

But yeah, Music compo shouldn't drag on for too long, or otherwise just early.

My best advice is, to keep the deadlines strict - so you can start early, and democompo wont start after midnight and run until too late.

As I see it, its about controlling the deadline.

18:00 music
(break)
20:00 gfx
(break)
22:00 demo

if you make all deadlines at 14:00 - you have plenty of time.

But you must be a bitch, and say "no exceptions".
the delaying is always made from extending deadline, because 1 or 2 demogroups are not done with their stuff.

just tell people: if you want to release at X, have your stuff ready when you arrive.

bugfixing in last minute on a party is crap anyway.

Go to X with a finished product, then you can talk and booze instead of slaving over some trackmo that wont link correctly. :D

my 2 cents..

Whats the big deal over time taken for the competitions with the party been over 3 days?

Why not have the individual competitions spread out during the main day?

I'd really prefer not to sit through hour after hour of entries without a significant break in between

My thoughts on compo entry disks:

Giving away a fragile 5.25" floppy with your music/gfx/demo, with a nicely made dir structure, only to see that you copy the stuff to other disks, break the dir art and so on..

its 2010

A large percentage is using a laptop, SD cards, MMC replay, 1541 ultimate.

Now please throw out that disk circus! :D

instead of the disks, let people come to a computer, where 1 guy sits. he collects all the material.
no running around, finding cba or another guy, let there be a drop station where all know where it is, put a big sign up! "compo upload!"

Now anyone can come with their laptop, SD card, usb flashstick or whatever, and you copy it to the compo pc machine.

Save everything as D64 or PRG, on a pc.

end of transfer hell, guys running around "can you transfer my music to a real 5.25 disk please" - end of that shit! :D

just let them come to you, and you copy it all to a pc.

when deadline is reached, you can write it all to real floppies if you need.

disk swapping demos, risk to bug when you flip disk on a 1541 U - but no swapping ones are perfectly safe.

try and run 10 random trackmos on a 1541 U to see how it goes, as a test. if you are satisfied, use 1541 U.

i just suggest this, because then you dont have that copy to real disk circus. only do that if really required.

well, i gave the suggestions..
i dont want to give you a good free disks every time, when the fact is that almost nobody even use a real 5.25 disk when they make demos and music - they use a pc! its 2010.

then you give them the 5.25 disk ofcourse.

you have misunderstood what its all about, its about that people can just come and deliver their entries, on the medias they have, and not have to transfer all to a 5.25

No, acutally it's not. Maybe it wasnt well thought through, but it's not stupid. I'd suggest both posibilities.

c64 Discs AND USB (or whatever other modern mumbo jumbo you prefer)

I've had the problem myself at the past 2 X's. I dont have either any floppy discs nor any real hardware.
And i know a couple of other composers who have the same problem.

And running around, begging for a disc and finding someone to transfer your shit is honestly a pain in the ass.

to cut it simple:

1) person has his release
2) compo crew copies it, no matter what media its on

if they want to run all from 5.25 floppy, its their business.

i just dont wanna give them a damn floppy every time i go to a party.

1) because i dont want to give away floppies
2) because i have my release on a D64 on a pc, SD card etc.

I did, and i appreciate your hard work. But i didn't think to go and bother you as i knew you probably had more discs to transfer than time.
I didn't really know you guys that good enough to feel comfortable with asking to interrupt your (important) transfer work, give me a free disk etc etc.

Instead, I bummed GRG or Jan for a disk and had to wait for Devia to finish his compotune (felt like hours) so Jan could transfer my stuff on his c64 (and the deadline was like 10 minutes ago).

I didn't feel comfortable with that either, but i knew Jan has a soft heart :-D BTW : Thanks Jan!

You knew wrong, my friend.
Let me point this out: there is no moldy, wrinkled, stained or cut-to-pieces floppy more important than compo entries!
At X-2010 I'd be more than happy to interrupt the rather tedious work of flipping anonymous floppies to transfer any PC media to 5.25" floppy in order to see a happy face and learn the name that comes with it :-)

So I guess it's safe to say that if the organizers are nazis, you can go to the highly appreciated transfer team to get something copied to disk :P

we will state our preferred media on the X10 website for compo entries. I remember scout or wevel saying it was a bitch getting things converted to d64 first lol ;)

one thing remains: all compo's will be run on the real thing with a 1541. old and new sid.

just talking on personal behalf, but I'm sure scout and wvl can shed some light on what they prefer.

There might be several people not wanting their nicknames to be said before playing their compo tune. (the nick won't be there in C64 screen as well, to be coherent).

Do you guys think this can be arranged?

There might be several people wanting a public compo instead, but to be honest, we haven't decided yet.

I'd say there are basically 3 options: handle/group+title on screen, number on screen or number on audio.

Hi Burglar

I just meant without breaking public compo - in case of general rule by handle/group+title on screen nevertheless to allow the entry to be anonymous if asked.

how hard can it be to write #2 on screen, displayed from a pc, then switch off display and run c64 exe.

so we dont have to pack 2 versions of our music.
one with blank screen, and one with info.

?

Why not also silence the C64 sound, so you can not hear any 'sound signature' or typical sounds of a certain musician?
The orgas can than read out loud a description of what the music sounds like, to further anonymize the compo.

The website goes on in the old stiff fashion: "your entry must be delivered on a floppy disk, and disks will not be returned"

No mention, that you can come walzing with a usb stick/sd card, and get the compo organizer to copy your stuff to his own pc.

I guess I'm the one to blame for the new bed policy... I almost gave up on registering because of the previous phrasing about people signing up late.
Bad thing: You might not get a bed.
Good thing: I'll be there. I took your bed.
I hope the good things will well enough compensate for the bad things! ;)

It's only a good thing if you bring data. Showing up is not enough, bed or no bed.

NEWSFLASH-NEWSFLASH-NEWSFLASH-NEWSFLASH

The band 6581 will perform at X-2010 !

6581 consists of Andreas Wallström (Morpheus/Flash Inc.), Eike Steffen (Romeo Knight/Red Sector Inc.), Anders Larsson
and newcomer Anton Johansson. They did their first live performance at Back in Time Live Stockholm 2008
and are really looking forward to play at X2010. Their set, which consists of songs like Game Over and Commando,
will without doubt satisfy any fan of SID music. Bring your recording devices!

You already know that there's a disk copying service (bring those disks!) but there's also a tape copying service this X offered by TCE/Hokuto Force!
So bring those tape originals you want to preserve (and/or share).

I'll probably be bringing my tapes over then. I don't care who takes them, but I don't need them back. I've only kept them all these years because I know there's some people that would likely kill me if I threw them away and/or dubbed music over them ;_)

Bad news. I might not be able to go to X2010, because I'll be in hospital for the next months. I try to get some free days off to go to Holland, but probably health insurance will say no to a short holiday trip. Usually German insurances only allow one day off when you are in-patient else they say that you arent sick.

I'll talk to the doctors when I'm in the hospital if there's a chance to solve the problem and if not, fuck them, I'll go anyway.

By the way is the entrace fee to be paid in advance or in cash when entering?

It just so happens that we have demos every week - part of the Scrum methodology we're using ;) There is a serious lack of sid-dancing though.

There is a (very) small chance I'll skip the company holiday, depends on if I visit the SOA symposium in Berlin the Tuesday & Wednesday after the X, in which case Turkey is out for me. But I'll only go there if my first option (a masterclass starting later that week) won't go through.

Apart from that, I'm not really sure if I would visit X anyway - kinda lost touch with the scene lately. I'm at csdb more out of habit than out of interest.

@Skate: what's making it even more ironic is the fact that I once promised never to go for a holiday in Turkey again (went to Bitez in 2004, absolute disaster) but hey - this one's free, and we Dutch love us some free vacations!

@Jazzcat: that's what I'm afraid of. Too much touching, too few women doing the touching, no thanks.

@TDJ: Bodrum is a great place for vacation but Bitez is the worst choice. Me and my wife had a holiday there 4-5 years ago and it was terrible too (the hotel was empty, servise was bad etc.). Try "Kemer/Antalya" or "Fethiye" next time or come to Istanbul and visit Istiklal Street and Ortakoy seaside. I can be your guide if your want. I know the best and worst places to drink. It'd be your call. ;) I've done this a few times before for my foreign scener friends who wanted to visit Istanbul. They left here drunk and happy. :)

1. TAXI? If you share it with 2 other guys, should not be that expensive.

2.

Walk to busstop 'Airport' in Eindhoven.
take Bus 401 destination Station NS. Get off at busstop 'Station NS' in Eindhoven.
take Bus 20 destination Helmond. Get off at busstop 'Kapelletje' in Someren.
Walk to 'De Hoof 18' in Someren. 16 minutes walktime.
Booze. ;)

Just read what we have written down on the site.

http://www.scs-trc.net/x2010/contact.html

Take the train from Eindhoven to Heeze.

"A phone number will be published on this page some weeks before the party.
You can use it to announce that you'll need to be pick up from train station."

@Devia. Which flight was this? I couldn't find any decent times for travelling. Norwegian flies 19:05 from Oslo friday evening to Amsterdam. Then train. I wouldn't be there until 0:00 at night at the party. Then return is very late on Sunday (21:00 or something). Ryan Air have no flights on friday, and return not until tuesday!! Privately I don't know yet if I can manage to travel cos of 1. studying, or 2. a new job? suddenly showing up one of these days.

Yea. I am half Norwegian. ;)

When going to X, do consider Duesseldorf or Dortmund airports, too.
It is just 1,5 h of driving to the partyplace.
But you have to rent a car - ca. EUR 80,- for 3 days (have 3 more guys and it is so cheap!!) or ask some nice German guys to pick you up.

There's convenient Oslo-Gardermoen - Dusseldorf connection operated by Norwegian.

Book your flight or firebrigade really comes. ;]

@Devia. Which flight was this?

SK821 to Amsterdamn and SK822 back. SAS booking via kilroy travels. From Amsterdamn it's a 2 hour trainride, iirc?
Price just went up to NOK 2847,-

In the future use momondo.com for flight searches.. be specific about searches and check out the low price agencies who don't appear in the search results (there are links to them at the very end of the search results) - oh, and be ready to book.. cheap flights are only cheap for a very short time ;-)
If it's too much of a jungle, call my wife at have her fix you a flight.. it'll cost you an oil-rig, but the service!? ...damn!

Can a dutch guy tell me how to get from Dusseldorf (DUS) airport to Someren? Is this airport the main one in Dusseldorf by the way? Is there some connection with trains to Venlo, then a taxi perhaps from Venlo to Someren (I see it ain't far away). Then I can avoid going to Eindhoven first. Is there some dutch guy that can pick me up at Dusseldorf, then drive me back on Sunday for the 14:45 flight? :P

The Düsseldorf route seems like a good idea. It's both cheaper to fly there (at least from Copenhagen) than Amsterdam/Rotterdam, and car rental seems cheaper in Germany than the Netherlands too.

It's not about the money. I'm quite rich at the moment. :)
Even though, it seems less hassle with Dusseldorf, as it goes better flight routes than Eindhoven (which by the way don't go to the main airport in Oslo, but Dussel does). It only cost NOK 995 by the way to Dusseldorf, Totally! Amsterdam flights has no good time schedules left that fits, and it is quite expensive "just" for this gathering.

@PAL. You're not dutch, my questions gets lost here. Call me instead, or walk to me, you're just 10-15 mins away from my flat. And when I come to think of it, you haven't been in my flat yet. lol

Why would you want to take a bus from Eindhoven to Heeze when you can simply take the train ?

(If you really want, check : http://journeyplanner.9292.nl/)

You have to leave from the main train station called Eindhoven, the other smaller one is called Eindhoven Beukenlaan.

http://www.ns.nl/cs/Satellite/travellers for more info.

Contact Hein or Bordeaux for more info about Eindhoven, they live there.

Oswald, if you want to get from the airport to the midtown (and central station - Eindhoven Station NS),
take bus no. 401.
6/7 buses per hour. Easy as 1, 2, 3.

Timetable:
http://www.oveindhoven.nl/EhvAirport.htm

Maybe you can take a ride with tram on tyres - Phileas (like Phileas Fogg).
I do not know if they are back. Google for more. :)

Ok guys, now there comes teh ultimate begging shit...

Is there anybody who could lend me 100-120 EUR for X? I would pay it back in rates by 20 EUR steps for a month.

I also would have a chance to drive with Raze/Padua maybe, have to ask Steppe if he comes too, and if he can pick me up.

Otherwise I will probably not be present. And well, i never was on any X so far :(

Thanks!

I will be on stage playing, but there will be a nice track for you to dance to! We can hold hands during the demo compo if you want.

As always a number will be posted a week or so before the party that you can use to get picked up from the train station.

And if you're using a graphics mode that isn't supported by r2, I have an unreleased version 3 that supports a bunch more formats and things like FLI with FLI bug colors. No one seems to be using xi though, so I haven't bothered releasing it.

Good idea. I think the internet will break in half if someone uploads a quality video recording of Hollowman spooning. Let's wait and see!

It is now only a few days left until the Viking berserkers merge with the Aussie forces in the morally deprived and whore infested township of Amsterdam. The continental Europeans tremble out of fear.

Me, Devia and ZZAP69 will meet up with Jazzcat, ALiH and Conjuror on Wednesday morning. The Pan-Scandinavian Thule posse will be reinforced as Norwegians will join the Nordic + Southern Cross Legion later the same day.

Another chapter will have to be written: http://www.theancientweb.com/explore/content.aspx?content_id=38

Either Valhalla or X. Forward men, forward!

What beer is it gonna be... Grolsch, Pitt...? How's taxfree alcohol prices in amsterdam airport compared to the regular stores? You all know that a bottle of vodka costs a "billion dollars" in Norway. :)

Booze at Schiphol's 'duty free' is quite cheap:

http://www.schiphol.nl/Travellers/ShopRelax/AfterPassportContro..

And they have huge selection.

I assume you want to bring a bottle or two back to Norway?
Grab some good whiskey.

Other prices at AMS should be +/- like in here:

Just 2 days until the party starts!

I'm ready for it. I've selected several C64-remixes, old and new electro and house/dance tracks and prepared my gear for the gig. Unfortunately my DJ-controller came up with a little technical problem last weekend so I'm crossing my fingers and hope that it won't let me down during my DJ-set on Friday...

See you at the party!

And ended. Wish it wouldn't have had to end though. ;) What a blast!

My only complaint to the otherwise flawless job by the orgas is the bigscreen, which wasn't very big, and most importantly not very C64 friendly. Usually things look a lot better on a projector, since they have a nice blurry effect, but on this one you could clearly see each pixel like a rectangular lego brick. It looked just like Vice in double size without PAL emulation. Maybe it would have helped to just unfocus it a bit?

Ehr.. why wouldnt it work? Are there mysterious problems and was I just lucky? (I did test it a lot before using it, though..)

The only nagging thing is the 16 entry limit, so this time we had to divide the gfx over 3 categories and manually resort the results into one big category.

Didn't get a t-shirt?
Send me a PM or email, i can supply you some file to take to your local print shop. (or possibly we could do a reprint, much depends on the number of requests).

Otherwise, a great (!) party, as always - thanks a million to the organisers and the other visitors. It was great meeting you all again.

Thanks for a great party to all, and to the organizers to making us all able to feel like one big family.

And now the nagging part:

This didnt go so well as the other times, several problems:

Self service at beer bar: result = chaos, mess, missing opener tools, no cold beer, at times no beers at all to get.
Toilets, no paper, basement filled with smoke making people sick because staying there in all that hash and having to stand up..

Kitchen: placing food handout at a counter with only room for 3 people, who then mindlessly stand in cue for 45 minutes to get something, instead of placing the stuff on a big table so 20 people can be served on same time...

If compos cannot be made in upper main hall, i dont think this place is usable. i understand you wanted to make x bigger, with more visitors, but then this basement is fail, as there is not enough room, for 200+ people.

Bitching over, its still the 2nd best party ever, the x2008 was in my mind the best ever and is hard to top :D

Jan, stop bitching. For 80 euro's you get a shitload of free beer, food and a sleepingplace to boot!

Considering the logistical sides of things: it kinda sucked bigtime to have the fridges either in the bunker, or the kitchen. So transparting crates of beer all the time kinda sucked. Maybe next time we should rent some fridges orso to keep the beers cool. Then again, with 200 beer hungry sceners, the beer doesn't really have time to get chilled anywasy :P No matter what we throw at it (even using the deepfreezer to get things going!)

About the kitchen: yeah, that could have been done better, and yes, mainly there were sceners just hogging the line waiting for whatever "yes, it takes 10 minutes for the other stuff to be heated up enough to be ready for serving"... and they just keep waiting for 10 minutes >_< Come on guys, just walk a couple of more times. You've handed in your food voucher anyways, so basically it's an all you can eat :P

Btw, using a large table for food handout doesn't really work that well when there's not enough seating available, nor plates'n'stuff :)

So Jan, do like CBA said: drink another beer and organise your own party with
a) food included
b) beer included
c) sleeping place included
d) big ass soundsystem
e) 200+ people possible

and try to keep the price down...... good luck!

Oh, and don't forget: first time new venue, always bound to have some logistical issues with everybody getting used to the new setup.

Haha.. yes.. If you managed to use C-Vote entirely without problems then there was probably at least a bit of luck involved. This is not to complain at C-Vote, because it has certainly been very useful on the BFPs and LCPs where we used it, but there is at least one or a few bugs in there which would have to be fixed before I would dare to use it at LCP again. :)

Last LCP we used another system that I coded myself. It is similar from the voter's point of view, but a bit more "basic" from the votesheet generator's point of view. The entries are entered directly in the source code instead of via a tool, and then the vote sheet program is generated directly by the assembler instead.

By the way.. How many visitors turned up at X in the end?

hey... this party was really awesome. and i dont really want to complain - it was just great and i will be back in 2 years for sure (i hope there will be an X)...

about what jan said... its not totally wrong in a few points (kitchen). but with the beer it worked all quite well for me.

my main-problem was, that there was just one machine for coffee which i needed quite much. so i ended up just having a half coffee the whole party after waiting 30 minutes for it :-) a 2nd machine will solve that problem easy the next time i guess.
well, i survived it, but thats just a not so unimportant thing for the next one eventually since i heard some ppl complain about that.

i know its really hard to organize a party perfect with all that stuff (we tried hard for oxy-party) and you guys really did a great job with it.

what i also missed was a bit of data-feeling in the hall - because the big screen was downstairs in the somewhat small basement. with bad air. i would have enjoyed a demoshow or something in the mainhall but you cant have it all.

eventually another little improvement could be the prizegiving. you know - when you have worked your ass off you would just like to know the result you have made - also if you are not in the top3 - but not a big deal - since you uploaded them very fast on sunday.

dont get me wrong - i dont want to really complain - i just want to make a few suggestions for the next time.

and now for the positive things which is quite the most of it... so forget about the negatives i typed

- sound equipment was awesome
- biggest c64 only party (woa, 230 attendants - just great)
- great and friendly atmosphere
- very peaceful
- you did not run out of beer (!!!!!!!)
- enough parking space
- nice beds
- enough toilets
- friendly organizers
- our gps could find the partyplace (not so in hengelo)
- nice competitions with a good presentation
- lots of more positives - i cant just name them all...

in the end this was awesome - and i wish you never stop organizing these X-party series forever.

The party was a blast, once more! For me the best ever, even though the bigscreen room in the basement was a bit small for all the people. Organisers, this time you were all constantly busy, running around, organising stuff. Really, your efforts are much appreciated, thank you so much! Greetings to everyone I had the pleasure to hang out with. Polish party posse, you rocked as usual, and thanks for the welcome sandwich!

On behalve of the organisation of X2010:

Your right Jan, there is numerous room for improvement. We interpret your post as positive critisism from which we can learn a lot to organise an even better party in the future.

The main challenge this year was moving to a new party place. This was inevitable as we got complaints about the soundlevel and the limited amount of beds.

We didn't have any clue about how things would work out beforehand. This made X2010 the hardest party to organise and that took a lot of effort beforehand and afterwards.

Considering this we spoke with quite a lot of people and I was under the impression that the majority had a good time and that is what is most important to us.

We will take your remarks into consideration at the party evaluation.

I'm guessing the problems are related to the development branch that we've been using.

Tim, thanks for seeing my nag as 'evaluation' and thats really just what i mean to do.

CBA, saying "do it better yourself or shut up" - take a course in receiving critics Niels :D

Yes, i do want to orga a party, located in Denmark.
We dont have one for many many years, and we should, with the historic legacy that dk scene has... really

I guess i just have to throw aboard all my concerns about north of dk people not coming, and south too.

Why dont more swedes go to holland, and why are there no south people in swedish parties, so my concern is, will people travel as long for dk as they are willing to for X ?

So its better to just forget these "oh no, will they come ?", and move it up to realizing level, and just give it a try.

More on this in spring 2011..

Regarding the venue...

I personally thought there was nothing wrong with the organisation, especially when it comes to moving the party to a new location.

There were the odd minor problems. The amount of beds were very limited and I ended up sleeping on the floor because of it (though the vodka helped the pain ;)) There was also a shortage of coffee sometimes, but that was obviously due to not knowing the amount of visitors at the party.
Finally, the power consumption did cause a few trips on the electricity (at least on the desks where I was)... though this always happens I guess... the same happened at Silesia 4.

Apart from that, it was a great demoparty! Lots of beer/vodka, lots of data, lots of SID music, really friendly sceners! What more can you need?

@Jan: I think there was actually a substantial number of non-Swedes at the last LCP. A guess is that around half of the visitors last time were non-swedes. ...possibly because the party was held in the very south of Sweden. So.. I don't think it is impossible to get some Scandinavians/Europeans to a .dk party (if the invitation/concept gives the right vibes. :)

Then again it might be better to go for a small scale party first, and let it grow gradually for a few years. Both for your own sake (getting a firm grip on the organizing part) and to be able to eventually fool enough people into showing up. :)

An awesome party organised by a brilliant crew!

The new place is all in all much better than the one it has been held the past events. This for several reasons:

+ It can hold more people and thus more c64 nrrds can show up.
+ The house with the sleeping facilities is separated from the barn where the party is held, making grumpy geezers being able to get their beauty sleep.
+ The Someren place encourages outdoorsy activities. Together with the physical training that comes with über dancing, X might even be an event that is beneficial for the health of the common scener. Making sceners live longer will prolong the life of the c64 scene.
+ The main hall has more of a data party vibe.

However, obviously, some baby diseases are to expect:

- The downstairs area was !FAB! for the gigs (6581 rocks!), however it was less well suited for holding a looong compo. During compos people sit down and for this reason, and a few others, the main hall would be much better. I understand the problem of then having to have two separate sound systems, but if I had to choose I would rather the gigs had to compromise than the democompo.
- Lack of coffee error.
- When a R.I.P. Jerry of Triad picture appears on the big screen prior to the compos, a silent minute is expected, not "MEK SZOME NOISE YA'LL!!".

Together with the Nordic, Aussie and American pre-partying in Amsterdam this has been a helluva week. Now my liver needs some rest.

It deserves to be repeated: Fabulous effort and hard work by the organisers. I am thankful.

It was a brilliant party. A big big big thanks to the orga team. I had lots of fun and haven't been drunken like then for some time. Meeting the old folks again, some after more than 17 years was great too. To be honest, we still look as great as we did back in the early 90s. ;)

About the organization I do not want to complain at all. There are always things to improve anywhere, mistakes get done. But in the end most of it got solved. I hope that some of the dutch organizers think about their plan not to organize another x and let happen the next one latest in 2012.

But up to then I think there is a fucking big gap which has to be filled. I only hope that my expectations I could have on those parties won't be too high now. But in the end you can't comnpare apples with pears.

X-2010 was great!
If I'd really have to nag it would be about... err... well...

There were enough beds, although during the first night I slept in a different bed than the second night. For the better, as Booker kept half the barn awake with his "sound track". Can't say the beds were a point of complaint.

The compos in the basement were long, and if it hadn't had a floor, I would have had to stand up... instead, I sat down on the floor. Standing on the other hand wasn't that bad, as I had been on my ass for the entire day already... nope, can't say I'd have to complain about it.

And standing in line for the food gave me the opportunity to talk to sceners I'd otherwise not have spoken. And the fresh air was welcome to. Nope, no complaints either.
Food was fine too, even the crappy shit-on-a-stick ;-)

Let's see, what's more...?
Oh, right, the shortage of coffee.
I don't drink coffee.

Ah, wait... the picnic bench gave me a sore ass.
Next time I'll bring a little pillow (or arrive earlier and get a spot with a proper chair).

Give it UP, y'all!

Only since EoD people are used to a flawless presentation in every aspect and now they start complaining about "tiny bugs here and there", unnecessary flickering of screens due to unstable electricity rasters or something. But honestly, next time please get some proper Latte Macchiato for breakfast. I'm used to that for chrisssakes, I can't change habits so easily at my age anymore!!!11

Freaking _killer_ party.

Jan: I have an opener. Living in Finland, you learn after about 3 minutes of being on .fi soil that you need an opener AT ALL TIMES (: Find me if you can't find one. (Goes for anyone, but you know. (: )

Out of coffee error: next time I pack enough heavily caffeine laden tea. Then we just need hot water. (This works better than instant coffee, which, ugh what a horrible thought I think I'll think about good tea now...)

OK, at least one person who attended is saying they aren't going to go to ANY Dutch parties anymore because the attendees (NOT the organizers) wouldn't stop smoking even when asked repeatedly to stop.
Um, seriously, wtf, we're all supposed to enjoy this, and just like if one of your friends drinks too much you take care of 'em, you take care of the people who are nearby who can't breathe. I mean, move away or summat, or wait to smoke til you get thru with the compos, or shout for a bathroom break so we can do important personal things like beer or smoke or stuff. (I could seriously have used one, I went the entire demo compo without a beer cuz I wasn't gonna miss a damn minute of the compo in case something was THAT awesome. I normally solve this by just getting a case and handing 'em out to people around me during the compo, but I sort of wasn't able to do that AND bring a chair.) Seriously. Don't f*ck someone else's party over being a dick about stuff, people will see that you're a dick and no one needs that crap bringing them down during a party.

Now, we'll get thru the idea that it was just a one time thing, and that next time it's not gonna be an issue cuz you know, we'll be sure that it doesn't if they just hang with a larger group who doesn't smoke anyway during the compos, but still. Some people hate smoking and in an enclosed space it sucks, and we don't need a freaking rule or any of that crap to "enforce" it. Just be cool to everyone LIKE WE FREAKING ALWAYS DO.

You know, the whole "Be excellent to each other" stuff which always happens and is why even when shit goes all wrong, demoparties still kick ass. Because of people and just having everyone's back.

Oh, and, yeah, I can't stand up anymore after sitting on the floor for more than 10 minutes. And standing for long periods makes my feet go "will you sit the EFF down soon sheesh." I'm b0rk3d that way (shut up I'm only 6 mentally shut UP I am not old I'm b0rked.) So yeah, chairs for the compos gets my vote.

Anyway. Cripes what a freaking excellent party.

Hell, we're all grown up and can handle smaller discomforts :)
Awesome party and personally I really liked the split between machine-hall and compo-floor.
That way I could actually talk to people upstairs!
And probably helped those that coded as well.
240 (+) people, only very few dead-drunk no riots I witnessed - man, that seems to be rare!!
Cudos and well done :)

A very big thank you to all the orgas, it is a lot of stuff you have to do for the party to happen that you don't see when you are just a visitor.

Besides the fact that it was a bit troublesome to find a bed when you arrive late, as there were no signs/lists on the doors (no, I don't count permanent Edding stuff as a sign)everything was done to make it a cosy event.

You may say you had to wait for your coffee, ok that kind o sucks, but you could use the time to have a chat, maybe there is always stuff that could be done better, may the party cost 80 euros or just 5 euros. what really counts is, do you really need a 5 star hilton place to have a nice party?

The new location was fine, having 2 halls was very nice for chatting without the need to shout because some sid-rockers do their best to get the audience deff.

The only thing I never get are those idiots puking all over the toilet when there are just 2....

11/10 for partymood and coolness of the party 07/10 for the eating stuff (the dinner was a lot better at the last x, but breakfast was fine though)

It was very nice to see a lot of old farts again that you saw like 15 years ago or so. I cannot remember seeing ppl like mixer, stein or the other Norwegians before, that really was nice.

keep up the good work, if there ever will be an X again, sign me up for sure, lovely party

Totally agree with Slator.
X-party arrangers, you guys are amazing.
X-Party visitors, you guys are amazing aswell.
Had a blast at this years party aswell.
Only bad thing is as usual, that I could have needed more
time to hang out and talk with people. Again I missed talking
with quite a few.
It's so beautiful that people with so many different backgrounds can meet in peace and have a so good time together. The rest of the world could learn from that, I guess.

Wow, I just cant believe, that this really happened. Year 2010 and such a big and amazing c64 party with so many attendents and great releases. So many heros from the past returned and even guys from the pc realized how much c64 rocks. A fantastic start for a next amazing decade of c64 scene. Keep on organizing this and I´m sure everyone will be there again. And please organize a second coffeemachine.

Well, great party no doubt. Minor annoyances : During breakfast, food supply was bugged. Lots of cheese but no butter/ham. Coffee shortage was obviously a downer, especially in the morning. Announcements could have been handled better, i totally missed dinnertimes. Sound-wise the compo room was great, but i'd rather have it upstairs where you can sit down and spread out a bit. Oh yeah and the benches on the tables were a real ass killer.

Lots of these issues were likely due to the new location. Things seemed to go smoother back in hengelo, but i'm sure the problems will be sorted out during the next 10 X parties :-D

Otherwise, lots of great people to meet and fun to be had. Will definitely be there next time around.

Props to the orgas, it was obvious you guys were under some real pressure.

Hell, Enno didn't even have time to get stoned properly :-D

Yeah, it was fun again and we need 90 more X to get 100 full.

Poo-on-a-Stick is so.... Lovely to kill rats.

No complaints.

But the deadlines should be on thursday and nobody should be
allowed to code, paint or edit sth during the party.

It was again super awesome. I expected a lot of releases but not quite as much. And the fact that there were some non-sceners and also sceners from very far away was very cool.

The party was awesome!

I really don't understand all these nagging comments.

Yes, I had to wait a few minutes sometimes for my beer. That was no problem, it was an great opportunity to chat up with others and meet new folks that were waiting too! And after all, I could have gotten more beers than I could handle. So the waiting part wasn't annoying at all, it was fun instead!

Keep in mind the organization consists of volunteers. They're no pro's and did a hell of a job. I even like it things aren't working out smoothly all times: this keeps me aware of the fact the party is organized by sceners in the first place, not some commercial and profit making company.

Please keep in mind too that the crew (like 10 people I believe) had to manage all kinds of stuff while 230+ others just are consuming and enjoying. I wonder if everyone is aware of the effort that has to be put in the organisation.

For 80 euro's this party is a bargain. Beds to sleep, beverages as much as you can handle and a great atmosphere during 2,5 days.

Organizers, please don't let the nagging you get to decide to quit organizing X-parties! I and many others say that this was perfect!

Yep, that goes for me as well. Having read the comments after my post yesterday I am a bit at odds with what people claim as nagging (if they refer to my post, that is). Some seem to take what was meant as constructive critique towards an already awesome party as an almost personal insult, immediately going into defence-mode on behalf of the organisers.

Well, you do not have to. I am passionate about them all and the effort they put into the party. It is an act of c64love2 this beauty of a beast.

It is possible to totally appreciate the awesomeness of X and at the same time mention a few things to keep in mind when organising another party. We are grown ups and can discuss, everything is no longer black and white as in the war between WCC (yeah!) and SCC (bläh!) :-).

Frantixxx: I hear what you are saying and agree. I spent a few hours with Niels on the airport after the party and I sure as hell reassured him of the supremeness of the event while he told me about all the hard work put into it.

The thing is that the complaints about "nagging" here does not come from the organisers, but from other people (which I was trying to point out two posts ago). And to defend myself I still see my post from yesterday as way positive with some minor thoughts of what could be improved. Next time I will wait a few days or just shut the fuck up (and hope that trolls here will do the same).

@macx. sure.. and in any case, if I remember correctly, you even pointed out explicitly (in your initial post) that it was just some feedback basicly or so, so I agreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. :)

(Although I do suspect that those who label posts like the one you wrote as "nagging" do it precisely because of precisely that worn-out-organizer-syndrome..)

You're right, there is a difference between nagging and constructive criticism. The latter one is not what I meant by nagging comments, so don't have hard feelings if you only tried to do some suggestions for improvement :-)

I meant people nagging about minor details like having to wait for beer, complaining about the entrance fee and so on.

Rumour has it that a certain sweet-talking swedish scener was effectively cockblocked when DeeKay ruined the mood by showing his (boring straight)porn stash on bigscreen for what felt like an eternity.

Nagging you say? I'll give you nagging! Why the fuck did you show my demo for such a short time?? Because I asked for it you say? Well, I was drunk!! You can't take anything drunk people say seriously!

Srsly, this was the best party I've been to this millennium. And with the kewlestest T-shirts evar! Really glad I got one of the last ones.

Other highlights include talking to a lot of different people. I was a lonely camel most of the time, but that meant I was forced to talking to a lot of other weird and inspiring geeks, both people I knew already as well as newcomers to the scene and old legends that I finally got to shake hands with and tell them how they inspired me.

Also having a demo in the compo was really great, although it was just a small one. Really glad I got it finished in spite of a nasty bug that I kept fighting with until 15 mins before the deadline, and that Linus was able to provide a tune with only a few days notice.

One great moment was being fed by the generous Polish people from Arise (I think). Traditional Polish food ftw! Also bringing my old friend Hyde, the ardent PC coder, and hearing him gradually soften up to coding something for the C64 during the party was quite cool. Rocking out to 6581 was cool too. The scariest moment was waking up in the middle of the night with a zombie pirate sleeping standing up in our room. He turned out to be Duce. The daftest moment is a close tie between the discovery of there not being any soap available and DK's lame porn show.

How the hell do you get cockblocked at a C64-party? The amount of females present is usually at a steady 0.00% !

-edit- Eh, ofcourse I neglected to take under consideration the possibility that there might be people "playing for the other team". In that case, the whole scenario suddenly makes a bit more sense! :D

20 Euros it's here. But of course, it has to be free (the letter/number combination must not be taken by someone else), and you only get to pick two middle letters and the numbers (first letters are region code). So, no NU-FLI 64 or something.

5. stunning compos.

7. new location requires lots of fixes in organizational terms.
8. I will never clean that shit again. lol

and to the people with constructive criticism, yes, plenty of things can and should be improved, if not only to relieve the crew. also a smaller screen/sound setup in the main hall is required.

AND PEOPLE SHOULDN'T CLOG UP THE DAMN TOILETS! THAT'S NASTY!

edit:

I forget the most important: ALL THE COMEBACKS! Omega Supreme, Stein, Danko, OMP, SIT, PAL, and the "new" ones pantaloon. louie64, etc :P

In relation to the clogged up toilets, your choice for the word 'shitload' is excellent! ;-)

Really liked the party and I am wishing to make this an annual event. Any chance?

Annual is too often :) X would kill every other party throughout the year.

Instead of making X an annual event, which would no doubt exhaust the organizers into calling it quits after a couple of years, someone else should take it upon themselves to start a new event taking place every year when there is no X. No, I'm not volunteering. :-P

I would volunteer! If only I could get some others interested as well, because I really can imagine it is a hell of a job to get things right...

Any volunteers available?

I think right now we have (at least) a candidate for that position, being Silesia Party 5.0 in 2011 :)

There will be an LCP in 2011. I am currently looking for a party place which is large enough for a big C64 party. (If someone has a good idea for a party place in the Lund/Malmö area, send me a PM!) That will be the 9th or 11th LCP party, depending on whether StLCP and the BFP parties are counted as an "LCP" or not. :)

LCP is usually held the last weekend of July, but a more exact date will be reported later on. (It is usually no more than one week after or one week earlier than the last weekend of july though.)

You may have noticed that there was no LCP this year. The reasons for this were only temporary and there are no plans whatsoever of ending the LCP party series. So start working on your demos, tunes, pictures and so forth! It is only about 8 months until the deadline! :)

Agree with Skate, nice to relive the compos and performances. I like Glance's videos a lot too, especially MVI_1015.AVI, which gives a nice roundtrip of the main hall. You should consider uploading that to Youtube as well.
