Release id #94464 : Headache

I don't have anything personal against that picture (which is quite good) nor the author (whom I respect), BUT I didn't like the fact that it participated in the gfx compo. Shouldn't animated (yes, I know - colorcycled ;D) entries be excluded and moved to demo compo instead?...

@yazoo: couldn't agree more ;)

@scout: so for next time, can we expect more compos for other types of entries? (my hinting becomes too blunt, I know ;D)

let me try some definition:

new frames without new content: no animation (headache, interlace, trilace...).

new frames with new content: animation.

Maybe that settles it? ;-)

As long as I'm the democompoführer: no.

Furthermore, what JackAsser & Groepaz said :P

Ah, lovely subject... let's start nit picking!

Quote:

What is new content?
Two different frames of interlace are not identical (wouldn't make sense), yet it's not animation ;-)

Animation: The illusion of movement achieved by showing consecutive images which together form a continuous sequence.

Just blinking of flashing or flickering alone is NOT animation.

Palette rotation emulates animation with single frame progression, so that's kinda different than just a bunch of blinking chars.

@Scout: Thank you for your in-depth reasoning and explanation.

@Groepaz, Jackasser: You are always welcome to miss my point entirely. Who gives a rat's ass about the difference between animation, colorchanging, interlace or whatsofuckingever? The point was about allowing non-static graphics in a (traditionally) static category.

Why not just let anything compete, and let the voters decide whether it's uberlame with animation, colorcycling or scrolling in a gfx compo?
