Suggestion for the Releases

Hello,

I'm missing "original publisher" and "date"-fields for the releases. Maybe it would be cool to have a special Database for originals (games etc.) and a second for the relating cracks/releases and so on.

What do you think about it?

Yes, many things are connected in this scene...

...but that don't mean that everything should be archived in the same place or same system. The arguments have circulated before. Even by now it's hard to sift through and find the information you need for your research about a certain scener or group. By adding games, commercial releases and (even more! sigh!) cracks messed together with the demo releases. One of the hopeless cases is f.ex the Role releaselist with loads of mixed demos and games, since this database isn't built to separate cracks from demos.

But to take a more clear example - if we from Triad would put up all our cracks dating 1986-2003 you folks would really understand how absurd this discussion is. I dare to say that we'd get a releaselist of far more than a thousand entries with blind ends. Same with Fairlight or any other group like Ikari (/Talent) which have released big amounts of cracks during the years.

Cracks should not, I repeat - NOT - be documented this way. They should be labelled in a Gamers Guide style (under game name and describing/comparing the different versions of the cracks) in a fora for itself. To mix them up here will only add on the confusion further.

It is also my opinion not to include standard cracks here as it just leads to confusion. When I say "standard cracks" I mean that releases like my "IK+ Gold" may still be inside CSDB as it definately includes more than removing copy-protection and installing a trainer. It's a different kind of game. Nevertheless, I'd like to hear other opinions on that matter (of course, then you have the problem, what is a "standard crack" and what is not. I hope most ppl will have a feeling for it)

Hi Twoflower,

why are Cracks messed together with Demos? In the "Release Type"-Field I could specify the type (eg. C64 Crack). So it would be possible to filter out those Cracks.
