Coding while you're drunk
Hi,
What do you think about coding while being drunk (up to a degree, or down to a degree, matter of view :)
It mostly works with music, but...
I remember coding was flawless and came by 'instinct' while I was moderately drunk sometimes.... how come... I'll never now...
It would be really interesting to see releases from coders breaking down ther brains to bare thoughts then building up intuitive wonderful things...
Kinda paradoxon, but might work. I think there are coders who never drink beer/whine...then what about meditation or coding just after wakin'up?!
Let's imagine: Drunk Demo competition :) LoooLler...
(of course there's no way to check drunkenity, but I don't care :)
now, shame on me for bringing something like this...
but I might code a demo as a result... who knows... |

nice thread for a laugh, but in reality often one (me) focuses so much that even forgets to take a piss/dump and eat while coding. drinking is a no no in the real world. atleast if you want to have a quality result.
Shite you have already coded hundred times is possible while moderatley drunk, but I think it would still take more time and effort. and coming up with something new I bet is nigh impossible. |

You must be right about that, Oswald. Thinking long term, spirit destroys some neurons after all, as I've heard...fortunately we have so much of'em, but we must be careful... it's really just a fun topic about occasional observations...not trying to mislead/encourage anyone to get stoned and start coding :)
I also forget to eat/drink while I concentrate on problems to solve. Even starved for a whole day, sometimes in a past. |

it's a matter of altered state of counsciusness.
Some one can reach an altered state to create artisic works "automagically", some others need a little help (alcol, thc, lsd...).
I never coded stoned, but often, looking at my own code made some times ago, i can't figure WHO did it...
Some times i go to sleep with a buggy code in mind and wake up with a full working code in mind...

Solving a coding/structuring problem during sleep can really work. But for me it was really a bad experience dreaming about codes and trying to get them work. That sleep was ruined, especially before waking up. The brain works at 500% while subconscious gets more into the foreground, I guess.
(I've read btw, that our brain's mass is only 2% of our body, but its energy consumption is 20% of it :) Now I'm not surprised by the words 'brain power'. ( Compared to animals, we pay the prize for it. We have nothing that they have - that wonderful hearing, smell, muscles - and we compensate it with brain...a bit too much...) |

Let's recall the Ballmer Peak, just for the sake of historical accuracy :)

I used to be able to reach the Ballmer Peak. Nowadays it's more crap like Skovpladderballe and 3th Dimention that comes out of drunk coding, so I clearly should stop. |

Ah yes, the Ballmer Peak. Note that the global maximum is at precisely .1337% BAC. ;-) |

Luckily I cannot code at all - cracking works fine on any condition however. Just make sure the higher the level of blood alcohol the worse should the program be you are trying to "improve" :)
Anything goes being stoned - of course! |
