An easy tracker
Is there other crossplatform besides goat tracker? A friend of mine wants to compose some sid tunes but he is finding goattracker too complex.

Thank you Mr.SID
@Conrad:
What he told was "this tracker is not friendly for people like me who don't know the SID"
I have coded the c64 version of a game of his, now I am just waiting for the music. He coded the game for the Speccy and also someone ported it to the megadrive. He must be wanting to port the AY tune to the SID I think. |

GoatTracker appears complex at first, but with a bit of effort, it's not that hard to use. If I recall right, zerozillion wrote a guide for it. Should be here on CSDb somewhere.

GT is great. Maybe, the way of thinking of parameters cause a little confusion for your friend.
If it is so, take a look at Music Studio 2:
Music Studio 2.0.0.16
It's an old-style .DUR base editor. That workflow has its difficulties, too - on the other hand the sound editing is pretty simple compared to GT.
If your friend have any questions about it, just PM me. |

Quoting AlgarbiWhat he told was "this tracker is not friendly for people like me who don't know the SID"
Making music for the SID is all about knowing the SID. |

Everything is difficult if you are not prepared to use the time it takes, to get to know things.
Stop asking for "easy tracker" and instead start to learn to use the program, then ask for help when you run into problems. |

Mr.SID has a very good point, and personally I agree 100% with what he said.
Nonetheless, people are different. I know some people that wanted to do c64 music, but who weren't that interested in learning the details of the SID chip, and they found Cybertracker to be a reasonably comprehensible program. It is not a PC/Mac program though, but then again one can always run it in an emulator... Now Cybertracker is neither particularly popular among coders (for example because of the rastertime it consumes) nor among more experienced SID musicians (due to its many limitations), but still.. It took a few lazy fellas over the threshold at least, and that ain't bad! :) |

Thanks Frantic, but I think he doesn't want to use any native stuff he doesn't use it for the Speccy either which is his real target platform.
Anyway let's see what comes out of it. |
