Jan, you're being very silly. Just because your tune (which I thought was great) didn't reach the top 5 and that you had a bit of carry on with the organisers regarding some minor problems of the venue, doesn't mean you have to quit the scene completely. I mean my tune didn't get in the top 5 either, but I'm not quitting am I?
and dissolving SIDWave, forcing all other members to leave the group, was a really bad move indeed.
You're a really nice guy in person Jan, but I'm afraid what you're doing right now is very childish. Sorry. |

Why should a group be dissolved, because the founder is quiting? That doesn't make sense.. |

Because the founder makes the decision that his group should be dissolved I believe. |

Jan, get back down on earth after time has passed a little. As people already said, there is no real reason, but if things made you sad, then just wait a little while until stuff gets better.
I had already told you people miss you on IRC. Now quitting the scene aswell and stop to do what you like to do, what would that help? Where is the benefit except of torturing yourself for NO REASON?
You fucking wait a couple of days and think it over again and until then, I wish you a pleasant time doing nothing but relaxing yourself.
Greetings from people you left behind on irc. Come back!
PS. As mentioned earlier, your tune is damn good. Your career has just really started. |

I'm a drama magnet!
My drama for this week (yeah, it's only Wednesday morning): Best friend and his girl fighting, Mother in law had a stroke, DSL install at crazy womans house. I know there's more, I just didn't want to scare you all.
Jan, Your music is good. Know it. Accept it.
Perhaps you just need to hear people say this? |

That's quite out of the blue sky. As it seems the vessel did not fly the way you wanted. I'm sad to see you see it that way but as it's your ship, it's your decision to sink it Capt. SIDwave ;)
1'st Lieutenand NP salutes you, it was nice to serve under your command, sir! But never forget: once a seaman, always a seaman
\m/,
Jan, good luck for whatever chapter you wish to start. Mind that end is always a beginning of something else.
On my part, it is strange to see some seemingly random carma changes. Lots of things are on the move for me now'days and those above could be my words as well with the footnote that I'll see you in the next cycle, folks ;)
I'll have to take some undefined longer time off the C64 scene, too. I'm not going to leave my mates in trouble and I'll be here if needed and keep my word for all of you (you know who and what) but my primary band from a coma state became conscious again. An another chapter starts somewhere else where I'm needed.
As I'm listening to Geir's incredible remix of the incredible Richard Joseph tribute demo now, I feel a chunk of time has been passed by and I'm honoured to be a part of it. It was really nice to feel 8-bit fire in my blood again, it really filled my cells with music and initial inspirations. Thank you all for that, you all are inspiration for me, I'm honoured to call many of you a friend. I'll surely return one day the same as I've returned after 15 years.
NP salutes you all! |

I think it's really fucking lame to depend entirely or even in large part on external validation for the enjoyment of your releases. I remember when I released my first demo part nearly 3 years ago...Scout said, "For you to do, grow an Elephant skin." I knew what he meant, and I already had one...hell, I went through the H/P wars and Operation Sundevil.
I don't give a damn how many people like my shit...my friends *always* like it, and failing that, I do, which is most important. I code and play around with the c64 for fun not fame.
I've seen a few people on the base (and in scrolltexts) threaten to quit the scene, or just quit for a while and then come back. That fucking shit is embarrassing...and tantamount to extreme lameness. I don't mean taking off for some valid reason...I mean when someone gets "butt-hurt" over nothing or some contrived bullshit.
@The Phantom...Eric, drama shit is so fucking much of waste of time in this mortal lifetime. Nobody gives a shit most of the time unless you are talking to a close friend. For people that *need* a pat on the back from others, go get fucked, it's a better use of energy. |

Totally agree with Brett here, that attitude has been my mantra about the scene for more than twenty two years. I work on projects because it's fun -- I enjoy creating stuff on c64. Any extra cudos that land my way are warmly welcomed and icing on the cake.

The C64 to me has always been a nostalgic little piece of hardware that offers me very interesting technical challenges as I'm so familiar with its innards, and get curious how something would be done in those limitations. It really doesn't have anything to do with anybody else.
It was cool going to X and meeting everybody, and if I was going to make the long haul I was GOING to release what I had. Hawkeye is a "name", and finally announcing the official sequel to the public could really draw some attention. I had no time pre-party to work on anything, but I put my nose to the grindstone during the party, skipped dinner to debug a real nasty VICE vs real hardware cycle bug the evening of the demo compo (big thanks to Ninja for helping out), and packaged it up without having gotten all the features in that build. The way it all worked out with the split venue, after all that travel & effort, only about 5 people saw it on the bigscreen. But you know what? I got it working, and I delivered.
I would think I'd have far more justification to whine and thrash about and quit things than you, but the satisfaction of seeing my code run correctly after that push, and for the first time on real PAL hardware, and being around my C64 peers was a great experience. I don't need anybody's permission nor approval to enjoy what I do, and to be satisfied in my accomplishments. If anybody else does appreciate or praise what I do, then cool, but that can't and shouldn't be the purpose of doing this. |

Strong and valid point White Flame. I wish we could have locked everyone in that dungeon down there to see the Hawkeye 2 demo, Richard Joseph Tribute and all the other productions that were damn cool. Next time there should be a half-way intermission for people wanting to go to the toilet, get another drink or have a cigarette.
Anyway - enough whining folks... |

Give Jan some space and I guess he will be back in the future. Do not attack that much, maybe he is really feeling down or something, let he solve it, whatever it is. People are strange and there is no normal or abnormal really... we here at this forum sure do not always know what is right anyways...
Jan it is sad that you quit, I do not know your reasons for this but maybe you just had to do it sometime? and now was a good time for you? I do not know... but you should know that I and many others have enjoyed your releases over some time and we like to think of you as one member of the c64 scene, I will think of you in such a way, you deserve that, you are talented... solve your issues and come back in another time... the timeframe of the c64 seems to be quite long so take your time, the scene will be there always.
Now we are even friends on facebook, so maybe we will speak a bit more soon...

I am not taking this as a joke, as I felt, that Jan wasn't very happy at all on X2010. Also Camper realized, that somethings going on with Jans feelings.
Rambones! You shouldn't take the voting at X too serious, I think. How about couping with some other musicians in denmark and do something together? That'll brighten your day maybe! |

I didn't interpret his original post as "I'm quitting the scene". It's more something along the lines "an old chapter ends, a new chapter starts", not necessarily totally separated from the scene. Jan, give us an update and stop posting these cryptic oneliners. This isn't facebook, you know. ;-) |

I can understand people may be concerned, but.. really.. how many times has he 'quit' the scene and rejoined not that long after? It's just become meaningless. Either quit the scene or don't, leave the fuckload of drama behind. |
