Release id #11494 : You Know The Routine
Okay so here I was, all happy because Camelot returned with a real demo, old skool style, only to find out it only runs on an emulator? WTF? Granted, I haven't tested it yet (did xfer it but have been too busy with some coding of my own) but I pray this doesn't become the 'future' of c64 demos. C64 demos should, well, run on a c64 first, emulator second.
Or am I alone in my sentiments?

Haven't checked that specific demo myself yet, but if it's true what you say, then I'd almost go as far as declaring the c64 truly dead. |

Uhh.. I meant:
If this specific future will become true, then I'd declare the c64 truly dead. I'm not saying it's dead just because one specific demo.

i have tested it on C64C + 1541-II and C128DCR, the demo works on both setups so i guess someone had a broken disk or whatever... |

It was just a joke. Don't take things I write in demos too seriously. :) |

I probably should have included the chars ; and ) in the font for the intro. ;-) |

Naah it's cool this way, at least I got the chance to be pleasantly surprised. The demo looks much better on the real thing, as expected. Great work dude. |

heh. strange imagination to have future demos only runnable in emulators. actually, it takes some coding expertise to prevent demos from running on the real thing while making them runnable in emulators. and i bet there's only a handful of coders left being able to code routines that serve that 'purpose.' a demo like amber cow was just possible because of two relatively unlikely occasions meeting, being an emulator coder 'forgetting something' (i.e., that the rom under the char ram at $1000-$1fff and $9000-$9fff is not visible to the vic under most circumstances) and a demo coder also 'forgetting something,' being the same fact. apart from that, there should be no comparable possible mistakes be left... =) so go code in your emulators, the chance to produce code running on the real thing is, well, almost to be taken as granted =) |
