Posting graphics on CSDb guidelines
Just an idea:
Personally Id like to see all interlaced graphics be posted as either a 2 frame animated .gif (quite ugly) or 2 frames merged (the preferred choice). As posting interlaced graphics in hires misleads the viewer.
Another idea I think could work:
All images uploaded should meet an X, Y size guide (384 x 272 is ideal). Once uploaded, all images would be filtered, so that all 16 colour images use the same pallet. Likewise, Ifli, SHIF would be filtered so that they use a pre defined pallet.
Maybe this is asking too much, but I think it could work.

Quote:for the screenshot from vice i preffer a image(gif, png) with 16 colours (in case of lace) rather that mixed laced colors which tell me nothing about the real colors a graphician used.
if you want to see how an ifli pictures looks like in zoom mode, then look at it in zoom mode. a screenshot should look like what is displayed on screen, really. |

@Moloch: hahahahaha.. Is that for real? Liquid Filled & Extra Sour!!! I love it!!!
(back to subject at hand)
If the snapshot is a real depiction of the artists work, why bother downloading it? IMHO, a crappy snappy should force a person to download the artwork, so they can see how that artist means for you to see it. Really, would you download someone's artwork if the image was exactly as it was shown on a c64, or would you just look at the image posted?
That's my 2 cents worth :D |

@Moloch - Bubble gum Camel balls. Howd that even make to the shelves.
@The Phantom - If thats your view then that opens up allsorts of alternative options:
1. No screen shots at all. Audio cannot not be played until its downloaded, so why not apply the same rules to images ;)
2. Post only .jpg images of photos taken direct from tv / monitor screens (no emulator screen grabs)
Either way, I prefer to see screen shots. (back to my original post) which focused on interlaced graphics, and how they could appear here on CSDb
Im quite impressed with VICE when the settings are set to:
Double Size
Double Scan
PAL Emulation
As it outputs something close to the real thing. Obviously TVs / Monitors add that something extra, (especially when it comes to interlaced images)
Wouldnt it be good if CSDb displayed 384x272 and 768x544. Instead of expanding the original 384x272 (which it does now) it took a 768x544 image, and resized it.

Write it in stone for interlaced stuff:
- blurred 256 col. PNG as main screendump (ja)
- an optional download link to the dithered version
- animated gifs or whatever makes you happy - to the comments, production notes or trivia
Seems to me that some people still don't understand that the screenshots on this site are references to the real, C64 versions - no more, no less. And therefore, should be threated as such. What's the drama about?

@Wile Coyote: I think my point was missed, or I didn't make it clear enough, either way...
I prefer seeing a screen shot with each and every release. The quality of the screen shot shouldn't matter because you simply can't duplicate what you would see on a c64, is the point I was trying to make. |
