Was really a pity for Level 64 members from Canary Islands as we were waiting for the live streaming and we finish drunk playing girls game in C64 as there wasnot streaming.... :) muahhh jajajaa |

bitching? great! lets start with: for me that 5-stars rating system / voting doesnt work quite well. i had a hard time with the votes, because its not enough to differ correctly between the releases. i hardly ever vote the best or the worst. so in the end lotsa releases just got more or less the same "stars" from me.
10 stars is the shit! :) |

Damned, this means I am officially dumb. We even asked at the main desk (where we signed up), and we were told there's no coffee.
It's not a major problem though, the party was great and especially the voting system worked smoothly. |

It could have been me who told you there was no coffee. If so, I am very sorry about that.
I did not know this, I just assumed there wasn't any. What I should have done, not knowing it for an absolute fact, is walking with you to the coffee machines and check out if it was available. And if not, I should have checked out if we were able to make some coffee.
I have failed. I am no coffee drinker myself and I did not realise it is almost a nessecity for a lot of people. Stupid me. Nothing to do with lazyness, always glad to helping people out. But I guess it could've been me suffering from some sort of momentarily mental derangement... altough I really hav'nt got the foggiest idea about how that could have happened to me. |

My bed was hi-jacked by somebody else so I slept in the car both nights. The result was me getting a serious cold (most could hear it on my voice Sunday morning I guess). Saturday evening I completely destroyed the last bit of my voice by cheering on all the wonderful demos - especially the ones that greeted Bonzai :) ... in combination I got so drunk that after the demo compo I had to go to bed - in the car. Missed the prize ceremony. Besides, I didn't think we'd even get into the top 3.
So, bummer on missing what would probably have been the highlight of my 8-bit career :)

- Projector sometimes jumped a frame
- Ungrateful audience didnt cheer enough when my rotozooming bars were displayed
- Too little time to talk to everyone
- Yazoo didnt drink a glass of sproutka as promised
- Please book more space next time if attendee count is >= this year
- No electricity in our sleeping room, just like last time, since we got the same one. But at least I got a bed, which I guess I should be grateful for with Traps horror story. :)

- Making people almost die to get a burger and trying to piss at a burger joint in Amsterdam was not really necessary to do? Was it? Burglar you are to blame that I almost got to be lame...
- The breakfast need more spice.
- The projector need to skip even more frames to hide bugs.
- I want more Burglar talk on the speakers, your voice is not so sharp as the main speaker... hehe...
- Mayonnaise - the people in the fatty-fry-fat-galore-wagon use far to less mayonnaise on them fatty-fried-fries... body crave for more fat... can you serve plain kilos of butter next time? Melted in a bucket would be just fine, with straws to suck it up.
- The Chinese dinner was totally fine so I complain it was not bad so I could complain about it.
- Beds are super but Pantaloon snore too much, can you please provide earplugs for all sleeping at the party?
- Moh farts in his sleep and it is total mayhem... I got a rash from it, please provide a special air conditioned room for him next X.
- I got hair in my coffee, please shave King of smooth next X.
- When I pooped in the pissoir the turds did not flush, make bigger holes next year... not to big, one could fall down.
- Move the bar back to the original spot as it crammed the place - better where it was before.
- Meditation class have to leave next year, we must puke and speak and scream outside. |

I see it in this way, in April or May this year, when i wanted to start coding a demo, nobody else has been active / interested in Hitmen. more bitching:
- 2 days later and still not recovered
- when I went to bed on sunday morning I slept a few hours and after waking up, the partyplace was already 90% cleaned up, damn it!
- nobody trashed anything and we couldn't find any stickers on doors that each would take an hour to remove.
- the private stash of ice-cold beer near the compo-team got me drunk faster than I wanted.
- Magic/Nah saved the day for those pesky sofasceners!
- HCL's new vsp part crashed a vsp-safe machine. I actually think you found a new edge-case.
- Sphinx' videocamera recordings are not on youtube yet.
- The low ranking demos were too great to rank low.
- the compo-team had a shitty view on the big screen and no personal screen as that would have degraded big screen quality *a lot*, causing us to miss all the greatness in the left bottom border!
- Arg! No power failures again!
- Hailstorm caused a big part of the parking-lot to be occupied, the problems I expected from that never happened??!
- Long lost Success-Founder Steel kept hugging me! ;)
- I didn't meet Red+White/The Judges.
- and last but not least, the compo was too great and long, you're scaring the newcomers away! |

Only some minor complaints:
- Although I was about the 10th person in line to fill my plate, food wasn't very warm anymore.
- When you have someone do a performance on three tiny pocket calculators, think about hanging a camera above him so people can see what's happening.
- I wasn't overly impressed by the sound quality in the main hall. |

Was it a Reloaded c64 running the compo? That explains why our demo crashed as well, it never did that.
I have a Reloaded mobo sitting in a box.. Just saw one of those first versions going for 800 on eBay. Maybe I'll just keep that in a box as a retirement plan, and run the demos on a VSP stable original C64! |

- The parking situation: the parking lot was full, even the side of the road was totally crowded. I ended up parking somewhere in Belgium
- The toilets: Things were fine on friday, but everything got worse after the compos. Some guys probably tried to imitate the movements of Bob's bobs while peeing, but that's just a theory
- The nightly snoring compos: While there were quite a few impressive basses I began to hear ring modulations after a while (probably due to lack of sleep). I felt pretty holgered the day after and I didn't even touch any alcohol by then |

wrong. you can say: we do not know if there is a 100% vsp-safe c-64. a c64 that never crashed due vsp since 100.000 hours MAY crash in the next hour.
thats all.
and its known that the 64 reloaded is not vsp-safe:

Aand by that, we get back to bitching: Somebody looked at the compo c64 wrong while our demo was running. Or maybe laid a long, warm breath on it and caused a crash.
My Siesta logo caused a facepalm+breath = crash, while Carrion's pic on the Hitmen demo caused 2x long breaths of amazement = 2x crashes.
Solution: Don't breath the next time, or if you have to, go to the next room! |

the result is the same. no matter how much you test for it, it does in no way tell you that it will not crash.

not exactly - whats known is that the VSP fix does not work reliable when using the 8565 VIC, it does work when using 6569. other than that its as good (or bad) than any other C64 regarding VSP. |

the result may be the same but there is a difference: c64s that never crashed with vsp since their first power on have higher chances not to crash in the future, than c64 models that have been crashed in the past.
and yes, the 64 reloaded as it was sold does have huge problems with vsp as mentioned in the forum. you need to get another vic to solve the problem or wait for the "new" mainboard from jens. |

not really - you might read up on how randomness actually works and what parameters affect the behaviour in this case. its not that simple.

nope, it doesnt have more problems than any other C64 - and there also exist 8565 equipped ones that are "stable" (as much as you can say that). if you want to be 100% sure the VSP fix works - something you cant be sure of with a regular c64 - THEN you need old VIC. no more no less. |

not really - you might read up on how randomness actually works and what parameters affect the behaviour in this case. its not that simple.
Quote:
yes, the 64 reloaded as it was sold does have huge problems with vsp as mentioned in the forum. you need to get another vic to solve the problem.
nope, it doesnt have more problems than any other C64 - and there also exist 8565 equipped ones that are "stable" (as much as you can say that). if you want to be 100% sure the VSP fix works - something you cant be sure of with a regular c64 - THEN you need old VIC. no more no less.
ofcourse its that simple. c64s never crashed because of vsp have higher chances not to crash in the future. its not rocketscience here ;)
i never said the 64 reloaded has more or less problems than any other c64 models. i just said IT has problems. if has more or less, we surely would need to find out. not that i want to. i just say: the so called vsp safe 64 reloaded as beeing sold ist NOT vsp safe. |

wrong: vice versa. somebody who won the lottery hundres of times has a higher chance to win again , than someone who never won.
as said, no rocketscience here. c64 models that have problems with vsp will surely crash again rather than c64s that never crashed. its not that complicated ;) |

- VOICE: totally lost my voice Sat night after doing Karaoke without microphone against guitar amplifier (some of our brought hardware that was left when the other official orga stuff was already in progress of being packed) 1 week later: Still a voice like Gianni Nannino but at least some voice is better than none.
- DORMS: how are you to get on these upper beds in the dorm? I'm a kind of sporty spice person, but always had to do a lot of gymnastics after having drunk a crate of holger or 2 to get up there. once I was up, my sleeping bag, my glasses, my mobile or myself fell down again...
- SHOWER: Talked to Tiger of G*P in English for about half an hour before we remembered we're both German.
@Camelot guy interview: He's so damn right! Fuck X parties! Music was better in the 80s \o/ And why didn't Daglish not compete! I want my Rob Hubbard back! ;) |

Maybe someone already said this (again), but I still want to hear in my drunken ears what the hell we're looking at during the gfx compo. It's already reported while submitted anyway. I don't want to take a masterfully made hires for a nufli or the other way around. And the fact that flicker don't flicker on the big screen is another thing I want to know when I vote.
Otherwise GREAT party of course. Ok one more thing. Why not include fritwagon lunch in the price aswell? Better rise the entry fee to 110 than having the hassle with unknown amounts of cash for us non folks. |

Starting to look like a cold epidemic. Maybe it has something to do with sitting in an overcrowded 40℃ room and then occaisonally going outside in 5-10℃ to cool off when you're too sweaty. |

actually Peacemaker organized the demo group. It only happened that it had a Hitmen badge on it - by accident IMO.
And it could have been easily exchangeable with any other logo or group name.

Something needs to be done regarding the beds. For 100 euro entry cost people should not need to sleep on the floor. Should also not need to exhange heated arguments over the beds if someone was or wasn't in the room. |

Come to think of it ... actually, I have one thing I would like to be fixed for the next X party. Please try to reduce the lag between audio and visual of the democompo. The sound was about 100-200ms delayed compared to what you saw on screen and a lot of the timing that was made, didn't really work. For our demo it was very clear, when you compare to running on a normal setup. |

I concur with redcrab regarding the hassle with cash for the snack wagon - add a few EUR to the fee and make X'2018 an all-inclusive event.
Also, a direct flight Umeå, Alvik (UME) <-> Eindhoven (EIN) for me and Dane. Norrland and redcrab can also benefit from this. |

Personally I like the food truck and wouldn't mind some more for 101% all-inclusive, but I know there are people with a different view. But arguing about food wagon and money? Really?
Come on, 6 free beers are like a warm meal, take a 7th free beer and you even have a drink with your meal.

That's a good one. The video feed went through a scaler/switcher. This created a small lag of the video signal because of the processing. The audio came directly direct from the C64s and were fed via DI boxes to the mixer. Meaning, the audio was ahead of the video. To compensate we wanted to use a delay the mixer for the audio. So there might have gone something wrong there...
I will put it on the list of improvements (or better: things not to forget) |

I still wonder who spread this rumour (and why). Real (vanilla) C64s were used in the compo. |

Quoting TrapThe sound was about 100-200ms delayed compared to what you saw on screen and a lot of the timing that was made, didn't really work.
Were you sitting at the far back, by any chance? Sound travels at 300 m/s, so even on the direct path from speakers to listener, there's a 100 ms delay for every 30 m.
Normally, as long as the audio is later than the video, the brain will compensate for the delay, and you won't notice. If the audio precedes the video, there's no compensation and it feels weird. So I agree with the organisers that adding a delay on the audio makes sense.
Still, if you heard a delay, then you did. It might be that at your location, the delay (due to distance and/or reflections on the walls) was simply too great, which broke the illusion. |

While talking about the food truck: is "patat & frikandel" the cheapest choice or just the quickest and the most accessible?
I mean, there's a ton of different choices on the market, with stuff like pulled pork, falafel, proper hamburgers, Indian food, pizza. I wouldn't mind something a bit more sophisticated. |

Check out this videorecording which was done pretty close to where we were. I think the delay is quite clear.

... if you're missing markers, you can look through our demo - for example the 8-split dysp, the rasters all drop on the beat - in this video, they drop with a slight delay. |

Ok, it was strange when I've read that the sound was delayed and now I see that the video was, as expected.
So you've just watched it from the wrong place. In anticipation of high visitor numbers the rig was optimized for a watching distance of 100 m or so ;) |

Damn there is so much content from this years X..
I haven't even been able to go through all the productions, gfx, music, and other releases from X-2016
and the sheer quality from most of the stuff are mind blowing.
Is there any statistics compared to other X, like amount of releases categories etc and ppl visiting the party? I am curious if records where broken (since I am hearing that here and there) and in which areas etc.. Would be great info.
What more is important to mention is that how many ppl that have upgraded to the next/new level of skills, demo, gfx, music etc. The amount of effort put into the C64 ;) |

I´d say 316 visitors and 21 demos in the compo are definitely a new record. Not sure about the rest of the compos. |
