Drop The Basics/Damage & Fairlight
Black Hole/Lepsi De
Anime-tion/TempesT
...and don't forget to post URL's as well ;_)

Opium 100%/Samar - for the sync
Risperdal Dreams/Upstars - for the oldskewlness
Who Cares/PWP - for the leet speech
Crest Avantgarde/Crest - for the tricks
Dawnfall/Oxyron - for the flow
Barbaric/Hal - for the hypnotic sprite movements
Triage 3/Smash - for the overall impression
Unsound Minds/Byterapers - same as above
Psykolog/Panoramic Designs - for the lulz
And for a non-C64 I would go for this one, also for the lulz.

I'd recommend this one:

the music washes me away even today (and I have seen this 15+years after its release the 1st time). especially 1st and last part. |

I understand that it is easier to just paste a link for the writer, but it is a pain in the ass for the reader, as we all have to click in order to see which demo you mean.
Using this tag <release id="XX"> is not _really_ hard, you know.... |

(without mentioning the obivous great demos)
Pimple Squeezer III
Pimplesqueezer 3
It was the part used in the screen shot shown in the above link that made we go 'wowwee!'.
I'd never seen so much stuff happening on screen all at once. I was impressed. The part that follows, is also pretty amazing - it shows a picture of Tutankhamen.

The work of ASH & DAVE has always left a fine impression on me. BLA BLA GOD KNOWS, was really stylish and the music sounded so powerful.
Another very polished demo, was their SMOOTH CRIMINAL release.
Bla Bla God Knows
Smooth Criminal
...Oh, and any UPSTARS release rocks hard and SOEDESOFT demos too - like TRAIL MIX! (Awesome music mix).
