| @SLC, why should U2 and U2+ users, even use a d81-version of a software, when a REU-version exists too, that offers much faster loading times? :-) Of course, when users see a d81-version, the first thing, some of them will think is, that this can, or should, be used on a SD2IEC too. Offering a d81 version, that finally will only be used by maybe three handful of 1581 users, doesn't really make sense and when the used loader even has kernal fallback (which i didn't knew before) it would make even more sense, to make it SD2IEC-compatible. Otherwise, the d81-version can also be removed and a cartridge version can be offered instead, for Easyflash and pi1541 users. I think it would always make the most sense to design software so that as many users as possible can use it. But well, ultimately that's the decision of the programmers. But the fact that people wish that the D81 on offer was compatible with SD2IEC is more than understandable. |

You're forgetting the several thousand U2/U2+ and Pi1541 units out there that now fully emulates 1581, which most likely exceeds 1581 users and SD2IEC users combined... :) The d81 makes pefect sense even without SD2IEC support.
But what about the thousands of TC64 users who don't have real 1581 either... For them an old firmware SD2IEC used to be a nice option.
And yeah, I might invest some bucks in a new SD2IEC, one day or another.
And I didn't say the .D81 made no sense, even on emulator it's nice not having to flip disk/change image. |

I certainly won't deny being lazy, but kernal fallback and background loading doesn't play very well with all the shit going on with open borders, all of zeropage (and most other memory) being utilized, decrunching while loading and so on. |

@Perplex, understand, then nothing can be done. Sure, the loader would have had to be exchanged, perhaps with the "GI Joe Loader" or something like that, which of course would have meant a lot of effort. Therefore understandable to a certain extent. Nevertheless it's a little bit sad too, because there will definitely be significantly more SD2iEC-users, than 1581-users and the d81-version would have made alot more sense then.

It's tempting to reply with "just ask Krill to add SD2IEC support to his loader", but I'm not *that* cruel.
Unfortunately supporting SD2IEC would require massive changes throughout the code, and I simply don't have the time nor the incentive to work on that. If you don't have access to a 1581 drive or any of the products that grant a 2MB+ REU-like feature, you'll have to make do with the 1541 version or use an emulator, sorry. |

If some people mention SD2IEC somewhere or not, is their thing and not yours. I like SD2iEC, some other people like it, you apparently not, it seems. That's your problem, not mine. You write what you want, here in the CSDB and other people write what they want. If they answer for SD2IEC version, they have all right to do so. |

would be great to implement "turn off loader" option and thus make it run on SD2IEC (as it used in former issues to be IIRC) as this is a far spread device and makes it quite comfortable to enjoy the mag on (un)real hw
